Nov 12, 2024 at 8:39 AM Everyone discuss their memories of this album dropping and being online or d12world. Totally forgot there was a Japanese version of Toy Soldiers!
Nov 12, 2024 at 8:55 AM I don't care for the way Toy Soldiers was mixed in Like Toy Soldiers. Something about it makes it sound annoying. I always thought it was a s-----y sample choice until I heard the actual song. Much better:
Nov 12, 2024 at 9:49 AM Man I still remember opening it on Xmas in 2004 lol. I lost my mind tor like 2 seconds coz I thought the disc was actually signed Too many memories with this album,,, turning down that one Obie line every time, going skitzo dancing to all the goofy songs and almost having an asthma attack lol,,,, my goat
Nov 12, 2024 at 11:28 AM I remember loving the music videos, probably cuz I was still in elementary. Use to play it on my friends CD player, and only like a couple songs. It was a disappointment compared to the Eminem show. All I remember was the singles…. Until I entered my freshman year of high school and Eminem came back with relapse and I went back to it and liked it more. Still on the lower half of my ranking as far as replay ability but now that I’m older, and with mocking bird smashing back in 2022. I come to appreciate it. We as Americans is a top 25 Eminem songs to me tbh. And I like the storytelling on yellow brick road and the hook. But the album did seem like it needed more cohesiveness
Nov 12, 2024 at 3:57 PM i like this album. sure, the middle section of it isn't his best but overall, i enjoy it. spend some time is probably my favorite song. i remember this album well because its right around the time i started using message boards
Nov 12, 2024 at 4:04 PM neomerge is a legend straight up. we're so f---ing old now. https://web.archive.org/web/20041228191849/http://www.d12world.com:80/board/forumdisplay.php?f=2
Nov 12, 2024 at 4:40 PM So no definitive edition? Missed opportunity. If there's one album that would have benefited from special treatment it's Encore. Em's team are idiots.
Nov 12, 2024 at 10:31 PM Ill never forget being so excited for this and getting to th3 middle and thinking it was a joke lol I remember everyone on d12world thought it wasn't the real album and that they purposely leaked a s--- version to troll us. Boy were we wrong
Nov 13, 2024 at 10:03 AM Take away the nostalgia and theme away off this album and it’s a pretty bad. Even the highs are not that great and Just Lose It is one of his worst ever songs, taking in the fact it’s a lead single from the album. Mosh is a great song, Evil Deeds is and Yellow Brick Road is elite. Rest of it is really poor for his standards or just filler crap.
Nov 13, 2024 at 10:34 AM Encore is a very strange album. It starts off incredibly strong, and it continues to be pretty good until like the 6th or 7th song. That middle section is legitimately awful. A lot of people defend them as just "silly em songs" but when you get My 1st Single, Rain Man, Big Weenie, Just Lose It and a--- Like That back to back, that silly energy becomes incredibly annoying. Even though it picks up steam again by the end, that middle section absolutely kills the album's mood. It fails as both a follow up to TES and it's incredibly bad for a "retirement" album. Comparing this to Jay's Black Album which dropped the year before, it just comes off as a big joke that isn't really funny for anyone except em fans who think he can do no wrong. People excuse a lot of the album's shortcomings by saying "oh some songs leaked" or "he was on drugs!" but the album just isn't very good. The strong beginning and ending does make me rank it above Revival at least, but I struggle to see how someone can honestly call this album anything more than mediocre.
Nov 13, 2024 at 11:55 AM Yes, I think I've pointed this out before. Five joke songs in a row, six if you count Puke. I'd go even further and say Mosh is a joke too, since it's a laughable parody of White America and one of his all time worst attempts at a serious song. Further yet, Yellow Brick Road is a drag to listen to and Evil Deeds is a terrible opener with some of his worst writing ever. Even Mockingbird is spoiled somewhat by subpar writing and monotonous delivery. The D12 song and Crazy in Love are very forgettable. That leaves a small handful of good/great tracks. Thankfully I don't give a s--- about Eminem's legacy. Almost gotta feel sorry for the suckers who do and b---- about it year after year as if it affects their lives.
