Dec 29, 2024 Scream situation parody will get people to talk, but she needs another mainstream movie or she will end up back in Mexico where she can't pay for the wars she's against
Dec 31, 2024 Yeah that's sorta the thing with satire in general, things being heightened to be a little cartoonish can be hit or miss with people. Although The Menu while being a very unsubtle critique on high society is much more tame than the satire that comes from a director like Paul Verhoeven cause RoboCop and Starship Troopers are some of the least subtle pieces of satirical art ever made and I f---ing love those looney tunes a--- movies lmao
Jan 3, 2025 at 6:28 AM After Get Out (great) and US (great opening but awful movie) finally gonna watch Nope now!
Jan 3, 2025 at 6:29 AM I absolutely love that they made the critics/snobs even more clueless and stupid in the Menu tbh lol
Jan 3, 2025 at 10:12 AM Nope Honestly, I didn't really mind this at all. I sure enjoyed this more than US, even if that one had more potential imo. Yes, you can speculate about several different messages and social commentary: - people nowadays, recording s--- seems to be more important to them than getting themselves and others to a safe place. Just to get the story and fame - people being watched by the government, as soon as you look back or try to turn the tables you get killed (eaten in this case). Its a JP movie so specifically about black people being watched obviously - the movie industry being greedy and f----- up, using people and animals will make them snap eventually. Only reason I can think of the gordy s--- being in there But ignoring all those (possible) meanings its just a small village being stalked and killed by aliens (which turns out to be an animal) that happens to live there. It eats people and animals and can't handle other materials which they eventually use. The movie is very well made, man the landscapes and how they showed the monster was so cool. However, 2 hours made it kinda boring sometimes. The sister was so annoying, especially the first half of the movie. Lots of dumb s--- too in general, but I enjoyed most of it! 6.5/10
Jan 3, 2025 at 10:46 AM I think Nope is my favorite Peele movie, a lot of it is very modern day Jaws and I really enjoy it. The two major intertwined themes for the movie is the pitfalls of chasing spectacle and the exploitation of nature for profit, so it doesn't have to be about Hollywood specifically but that's obviously the lense they put it through to drive the point across. The Gordy stuff was to play on both of these themes while providing Jupe with a character reason why he'd go after the alien, Jupe was seen as respecting the chimp cause the tablecloth between the two meant that he wasn't looking gordy in the eyes so that's why Gordy went for the fistbump like he was trained to do. That "bad miracle" made Jupe feel comfortable exploiting another piece of nature for spectacle and it didn't work out too well the 2nd go around lol Happy you enjoyed!
Jan 3, 2025 at 11:44 AM That's true, the fact they spend so much time trying to capture the thing on camera instead of getting the f--- out of there really shows how people are desperate for clicks and fame over safety lol. I like the themes and yeah the monkey just served as a backstory for Jupe and to further explain that theme. Didn't think of that I was looking for more meaning lol. But yeah this was pretty cool. Happy they mostly stayed away from the race stuff too. Get Out handled that perfectly! And US, yeah idk man the nurture vs nature thing (opening and the twist at the end) were awesome and the stalking parts reminded me of the Strangers. But the biggest part it's so try hard and pretentious (the line of people lmao) that it fails to make for an enjoyable horror movie. Especially the weird screaming etc makes it more comedy and a parody actually lol. And again, that is a shame because it has so much potential. Anyway, for me it's still 2/3 for Jordan Peele now so that's good!
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:05 PM I rewatched the first one for Halloween month this year but I don't really feel like rewatching S2
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:12 PM This is more of a sci-fi thriller but eh there’s some horror to it I suppose. Someone finally put the sex robots from Detroit become human into a movie. It helps that it’s played by Megan Fox. The movie is predictable and kinda stupid at points. It’s definitely nothing special but it still kinda entertained me, mostly because of Megan Fox and the fact that I’ve already had the basic idea of this movie in my head for a while. It’s nothing special, not really a good movie but not bad either. I’d give it a 5/10 or 6/10 depending on how I’m feeling that day. Check it out if you like Megan Fox and/or AI servants I guess
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:22 PM Oh yeah I forgot to mention, I finally watched Smile 1 the other day. Meh, 6/10. Think I hyped myself up too much after how great Smile 2 was
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:23 PM Yeah just like the first one it really sucks how it ends but the journey is absolutely perfect. I love Smile 1, but the second is such a wild ride and scary as h--- at some points. And just crazy. Again, Skye deserved better, but I 100% stand by the 9/10 I gave it the first time. Probably my favorite horror movie since Halloween (2018) for different reasons. Very curious how they are gonna handle this now lol
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:25 PM U really watched 2 before 1? d--- lmao But I guess aside from the opening u didn't really need the first part. Morris kinda gave a quick recap of the events. I think part 1 is really great too but going on the scary ride with Sky was waaay creepier than the doctor imo.
Jan 5, 2025 at 4:58 PM I really liked Smile 1, and I say that as someone who thought, based on the trailers and promotion of the movie, that it would be extremely stupid. I’ll probably just wait for Smile 2 to come to streaming though
Jan 5, 2025 at 5:09 PM I love that the movies don't rely on jumpscares alone and it just really makes you uncomfortable at times lol. Very curious if u prefer 2 over 1 as well!
Jan 5, 2025 at 5:15 PM True s---. Also I just found out apparently Smile 2 is on Paramount+. Looks like I’ll have to subscribe to that s-----y service again… or I’ll just find a free trial because I don’t wanna pay these f---ers money for the shittiest streaming platform out there no matter how cheap it is lol
