g.d.. As much as I love Rain Dogs, this record is my favorite out of Tom's discography. It's so dark from beginning to end, and it's incredible. The whole record just feels like death. I 100% recommend this record to anybody who's in the mood for some dark alt-rock.

Pretty decent score, although I feel that Part I's was stronger

Just a compilation of all the tracks from Fallout New Vegas' radio stations. Some pretty d--- good tracks, although I can't really separate them form the visual of repeatedly dying to Deathclaws lmao

    144. Atmosphere - God Loves Ugly (2002) [April 7th, 2025]

Finally some Atmosphere, like I promised to @Allis Mines like...80 albums ago. I did enjoy WLGYLYPTSG when we heard it for AOTWClub, but before that I had planned to check this album out at some point, so this has been a long time coming.

Right off the bat, this is a much more boom-bap-y than WLGYL (gonna shorten the acronym from now on), and I think I actually like Ant's production more on here. From a production standpoint, highlights would have to be "Flesh", "A Girl Named Hope" and "Godlovesugly (Reprise)".

Then there's Slug. I...actually really fw Slug. His voice is dope, and his lyrics match Ant's production really f---ing well. I know that "f--- You Lucy" is one of the most popular songs on this album, and it deserves that popularity. I especially liked "Modern Man's Hustle" and "One of a Kind" near the end.

Overall, I really enjoyed this record. Although I do have to mention that I get like 99% of my albums from Soulseek, so I can't tell if the girl who was yapping about this being an advance copy is on the streaming version. I really hope to check this out again in the future, and if any AOTWClub members who didn't really vibe with WLGYL are reading this, I heavily recommend it!!!

Also I gotta give a shoutout to this line lol
"I still say f--- a major label 'til it limps
Put your deal up our table and we'll show you who's the p----"

    145. Various Artists - Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Flash FM (2002) [April 7th, 2025]

Similar to the New Vegas comp from yesterday, this is just a quick compilation of songs from GTA:VC's Flash FM radio station. Decent comp, made up entirely out of 80's pop hits. Next time I do a Vice City playthrough I hope to checkout Emotion, since I mainly just stuck to Flash and V-Rock.

    146. Carmine Coppola & Francis Coppola - Apocalypse now (Soundtrack) (1979) [April 7th, 2025]

I really like checking out film scores it case it wasn't obvious. Sadly, this one left me quite disappointed. To call this a "score" would be disingenuous. I'd say that around 50-75% of the material here is made up of sound excerpts from the film. Don't get the wrong, I absolutely LOVE the film, but the inclusion of these excerpts kind of ruins the listening experience. There are so many great, dark pieces that are ruined by having minutes of dialogue over them. If I could find a version of this without the dialogue, I'd be ecstatic.

    147. David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World (1970) [April 7th, 2025]

(I'm not using that godawful American cover) This album is usually pretty looked over apart from its title track, but its pretty d--- good. "The Width of a Circle" is underrated. Good, but nor one of my favorite Bowie records. Title track is always increidible though, whether it be the original, the Nirvana version, or the Midge Ure cover.

    :emoji_star: 148. Run The Jewels - RTJ4 (2020) [April 8th, 2025]

Yet another 2020, COVID era album. This was my first RTJ album back when it dropped, and I LOVED it. And now...I still do. I've gone back and checked out the rest of their stuff, but something about RTJ4 just makes it unique. You have fun tracks like "Ooh Lah Lah" and "Out Of Sight" but you also have some really heavy ones like "Walking in the Snow" and "Pulling the Pin".

I remember thinking "Can't wait for RTJ5!!!"..... It's almost been 5 years man

I have to admit that when it comes to Griselda, I'm really only familiar with Gunn's work. Despite this, TPIM is probably my favorite Griselda project. It's short sure, but every track is a f---ing slam dunk. All killer no filler. People always talk about Black Thought and Pusha's verses (and rightfully so), but I just HAVE to shout out RJ Payne on "Dirty Harry" Like.... d---

    "Raw specimen, pure medicine
Benny said clean n----s up, I'm George Jefferson
Black Sopranos, we workin', three quarters Mexican
Bars hit you like findin' out your daughter a lesbian"

i should probably check out the sequel at some point.

In case it wasn't obvious, if an album has Scarface references/samples/etc., I get hyped up even more. One of my Top 2 films of all time

I still remember the first Benny song I ever heard “5 to 50”

“I been sellin' dreams to sleepers, n-----
Tell the truth, that's the perfect business
'Cause in the drought, I was payin' double
For some work that wasn't even worth the ticket
Plate scrapers, went to work to get it
Check my bank statements, probably hurt your feelings
How I'm in every verse admittin'
    How I work a kitchen like it's Church's Chicken”

    :emoji_star: 150. A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here...Thank You 4 Your Service (2016) [April 8th, 2025]

Time for another Yeez Hot Take!!! I've never been a big Tribe guy. Aside from Low End Theory, I never really connected with their stuff that much (I know that having that opinion about Midnight Marauders is especially controversial). With that being said, I think that this is their best album. I guess a big part of it has to be the production. This album is insanely well produced, with "Solid Wall of Sound" and "Dis Generation" being highlights. My favorite verses from Q-Tip and Phife come from this record, and its impossible to discuss it without mentioning the star studded features on it. Like, Kendrick, Kanye, Andre, Jack White (Twice!!!), and so many more. Due the frequency of their appearances, I feel like Busta and Consequence are essentially honorary members of Tribe by this point, and they do incredible.

I especially have to mention my favorite track on this record, and my favorite Tribe song overall, that being "The Donald". The second half especially is an incredible tribute to Phife, and as a whole, its such an amazing closer for an amazing record. I do plan on revisiting LET and MM soon, but for now, this is Tribe's best for me. RIP Phife

    151. Tom Waits - Mule Variations (1999) [April 8th, 2025]

My first post-Bone Machine Waits record. I think its pretty good, although its lacking the abrasiveness that makes BM so special for me. Still a good time though, don't get me wrong.

    152. Swans - Children of God (1987) [April 9th, 2025]

This was very different from their prior stuff. There's still parts of it, but the harshness from Filth - Holy Money is less present here. Glad that I can finally understand what Michael is saying without a lyrics sheet :)

    153. Swans - The Burning World (1989) [April 9th, 2025]

This was...different. Definitely much more commercial, but that doesn't make it bad by any means. This might be another Yeez Hot Take, but I enjoyed this more than Cop and Greed. I can also recognize that records like Filth and Holy Money are great, but I'd have to be in a VERY specific mood to play them. This album is far from groundbreaking (Especially coming after COG), but its a decent time.
