Redux #5. g--- Starr - Moment of Truth (1998) [August 15th, 2025]

I've been pretty lukewarm on some of the g--- Starr albums that I've covered on here. BUT, I am never going to deny that Moment of Truth is stellar. The record just "Feels" monumental, y'know? This isn't the last g--- Starr record, but there's a sense of finality to it. Like, the previous four albums were leading up to this. And oh boy, is it a great pay off.

"You Know My Steez" begins with a snippet of a Guru interview, and the listener is thrown head first into the action. The record is made up of hard, energetic tracks like "Work", "B.I. vs Friendship" and "The Mall", but there are also some incredible mellow songs on here like "JFK 2 LAX", "Moment of Truth", and the closer, "In Memory Of...". "Betrayal" also has a verse from one of my GOATs, Scarface. If there's any song that I have to highlight though, it has to be "Next Time". Something about that beat just fills me with happiness, seriously, Premier killed it. And Guru? Oh My God

Had so many lyrics stashed, and I couldn't wait to bust some
Lately, I've watched this game evolve and elevate
So now I push my music like d--- dealers push weight
Straight like that, straight out the gate

10/10 without a doubt.

383. Queen - Sheer Heart Attack (1974) [August 18th, 2025]

This is the only full Queen album that I've ever heard, and I'm pretty mixed on it. It starts off incredibly with the incredible "Brighton Rock" and "Killer Queen". 10/10 songs, without a doubt. After that though? The songs are just too quick to make an impression. "Tenement Funster", "Stone Cold Crazy", and "In The Lap of the Gods...Revisited" is pretty dope tho

Redux #6. The Cure - Disintegration (1989) [August 18th, 2025]

Another Redux review? d---.

I usually try to present myself as "Confident Music Loser", but I have to admit that I get teary eyed everytime that I put Disintegration on. It's simultaneously one of the beautiful, and one of the saddest albums I've ever heard. "Plainsong" is an incredible intro of course. I can't pinpoint what, but something about "Pictures of You" just hits me right in my soul. It just, sounds like pure nostalgia. "Love Song" is one of the best love songs (lol) ever made, and the two-punch of "Lullaby" and "Fascination Street" is out of this world.

The second half of the album is what really gets to me though. "Prayers for Rain", "The Same Deep Water As You", "Untitled"....it takes a lot of effort to not bawl like a baby when these songs come on. The emotion is ramped up to eleven, and I can't help but marvel at the spectacle.

Everybody and their grandma knows that Disintegration is perfect, and I can't stop loving it

384. Griselda - WWCD (2019) [August 19th, 2025]

This was my first Griselda project back in 2020. And honestly, I think that it gets weaker over time.

Don't get me wrong, WWCD has lots of great tracks like "Chef Dred's", "Dr. Birds", and "Scotties". But something about the album just falls flat. Im not sure if this is true, but I've heard that Shady Records didn't really want to pay for samples, so a lot of the instrumentals are VERYYY barebones. Still, I really enjoy 5/12 tracks on here (not counting that awful "b---" Remix), so it isn't a bad album or anything.

385. Eminem - 8 Mile (Soundtrack) (2002) [August 19th, 2025]

I've made it clear that I think 2002-2003 Eminem is his peak, so a big part of the 8 Mile Soundtrack is amazing. "Lose Yourself" might be overplayed, but it's never overrated, "Love Me" is a great track with the newest Shady signees at the time, and I truly think that "8 Mile", "Rap Game", and "Rabbit Run" are amongst his most underrated tracks ever.

I am a bit mixed with the rest of the album though. "Wanksta" is a classic, and I'm a big fan of "8 Miles and Runnin'", "Spitshine", "R.A.K.I.M.", and "Battle". I was pleasantly surprised by Macy Gray's "Time of My Life" as well. Most of the other tracks are decent, with the exceptions of "Wasting My TIme" and "That's My n----- Fo' Real" which SUCKKKKKK (especially the Boomkat track, like jeez)

I think that the 8 Mile Soundtrack is the best Em project that isn't a main solo album (Aside from Devil's Night) and it's mostly a great time

386. Lana Del Rey - Norman f---ing Rockwell! (2019) [August 23rd, 2025]

I finally get to review my latest AOTW Club pick, right as the week is over lmao. I have lots of feelings and memories tied to Norman f---ing Rockwell! It was my first Lana album, and I've played out throughout various crucial points of my life. As I mentioned in my intro post in the AOTW Club thread, I like to view NFR sort of like a lament for America. It's a great breakup record don't get me wrong, but the sense of the long dead American Dream permeates all throughout his album in my opinion.

"Norman f---ing Rockwell" is one of the best intro tracks to a pop album, period. The lines are iconic ("...you f----- me so good that I almost said 'I Love You'"), the instrumental is simple, but effective, and Lana just sounds so defeated on track one man. 'Mariners Apartment Complex" is another great, slow track, but the epic "Venice b----" is out of this world. It took me a while to love it, but "f--- It I Love You" has become one of my favorite tracks on the album. "Doin' Time" is a great cover by Lana, and it fits perfectly on here. I do have to admit that I'm not as in love with "Love Song", "Cinnamon Girl", and 'Bartender" when compared to the rest of the tracklist, but it's still serviceable. Then you have amazing tracks like "California" and "The Next Best American Record", which elevate the album even further.

And then, there's "The Greatest". I remember when this song clicked for me. I was walking, trying to get to my next class, and then I got to the hook. I think that this song shows the album's heartbreak for America better than any other, and the outro still hits me right in the feels to this day.

I still love Norman f---ing Rockwell! after all these years. I think that is is the best pop album of the 2010's, and it stands tall as Lana's best work. I love, love, LOVE this album

387. Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits (1970) [August 23rd, 2025]

This one will be pretty short since I just moved back onto campus, and I'm tired as h--- man

This compilations is a great intro for Funk music, and wow it's fun. Everybody and their grandma knows "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", but there are some great cuts on here that I had never heard before like "Stand!" and "Hot Fun in the Summertime". nothing much to say aside from the fact that it's neattttt

388. Westside Gunn - FLYGOD (2016) [August 24th, 2025]

Bumped this one yesterday, but I have a cold, so the review was bumped to today. FLYGOD is weird man. I mean it's not even on streaming, and it seems like a lot of people overlook it. I think it's pretty good though.

"Dunks" has a really cool beat, and both West and Conway k--- it. I gotta shout out "Gustavo", "Shower Shoe Lords" (Great Benny verse btw), and "Omar Coming". The whole album is really tight, even though I prefer the grittiness of Supreme Blientele more. "Dudley Boyz" is especially incredible though, with that incredible beat, and Wes and Bronson demolish it.

So yeah. FLYGOD isn't West's best, but it's still pretty d--- good

389. D12 - Devil's Night (2001) [August 25th, 2025]

Since we're apparently getting two D12 songs tomorrow with the Stans Soundtrack, I figured that it would be a good idea to revisit the group's first album.

Now, Devil's Night has a lot going for it. I know that I've said that 2002-2003 Eminem is my favorite, but 2001 Em was a f---ing beast. Every verse, every hook. he kills it. The other members a re a mixed bag though. Proof has a great voice (and like other posters have said, he's the only member aside from Em that had any form of star quality) and even though he's not the best, I've grown to like Bizarre's verses in a "so bad it's good" way. The rest though? Kon Artis is fine, and he's a legendary producer in his own right, but Swift and Kuniva get mixed up in my head once in a while. They's very skilled, but they're missing something. The subject matter is also very strange once in a while. The edgy offensive lyrics work well when delivered by Em and Bizarre, but they sound a bit forced when they come from someone like Kuniva (KunivaSXN coming soon!!!)

As for the songs themselves, they're pretty d--- good. "s--- Can Happen" has one of my favorite Em verses, "Pistol Pistol" is sick, and I LOVEEEE "American Psycho". "Purple Pills" and "Fight Music" are classics for a reason. every members pulls their weight on these songs. Songs like "Instigator" and "Devil's Night" especially hit hard on this listen. "Revelation" has one of my favorite beats on the album, and it also has one of my favorite Proof verses ever. I'm a bit mixed on "Girls" though. Don't get me wrong, I love the energy and the wordplay from Em, but it gets kinda silly when you realize that he's dedicating a diss to Limp f---ing Bizkit lmao. As for the deluxe tracks, "Words Are Weapons" is amazing, "These Drugs" is sick, and it has another great Proof verse, and "s--- On You" is just funny man.

I know that the first paragraph makes it seem like I'd be lukewarm on the album, but I honestly really like Devil's Night. Is it a bit too reliant on Em? Sure. But I can't deny that it's a good time, and it serves as an essential part of his discography in my opinion
