We all know No Apologies. One of the all-time greatest Eminem songs for many people, myself included. While it was released in December 2006, it’s common knowledge that it was recorded in early September 2001 for the Eminem show (with a different 3rd verse, as per Joe’s claim and the actual 3rd verse sounding much more closer to ‘05 Em in both the vocals and writing imho). Take it was another song recorded for TES, although it was reworked a bit in 2008 and got leaked with a barebones beat. However, mongy discovered it to have hidden guitars in the mix (simply not hidden properly) due to them being from Jeff Bass (whose last sessions was for beautiful in April 2006). As per Joe Strange, this is allegedly due to pretty much robbing Em of his publishing rights with a ridiculous contract and Paul was the only one able to see it (it’s not confirmed if it’s exactly why, so I wont mention it anywhere else).

The thought came to my head, and it made me wonder if NA could possibly also have something done by Jeff Bass that got hidden, although I’m aware it most likely didn’t. Jeff Bass had worked on just about every song for TES, save for the Dre tracks (obviously), always adding the guitar and usually the bass (although sometimes Eminem would do the bass, such as on take it, it was rare at that time). Jake Bass once said the reason Jeff didn’t work on encore was due to the birth of his other son, which is probably why he didn’t do anything for the last recorded song for TES (sayin goodbye to hollywood, which Steve King, who usually is credited as the mixer, does the guitar along with other future recorded songs). Square dance has Bass credits, and that was recorded in November 2001 (plus it had 9/11 references, so it’s impossible to have been made before NA), meaning Bass was still involved in the production after no apologies was finished.

While the rest of TES era songs have many instruments: such as most songs having both guitars and pianos (the few that don’t just have guitars), no apologies is different. It’s a very simple drum beat with only a kick, snare and the odd hi-hat that simply loops throughout the whole track, but it just about works, along with the bass. The rest of the beat is pretty much carried by Resto and his melodic playing on his keyboards and strings. Luis Resto hadn’t done any solo production for Em (without Bass) before encore except for girls.

Again, as I said, there’s most likely not anything Jeff contributed to that got hidden. I just thought of it a few minutes ago and wanted to see what other people think.

Jeff bass didn't do Till I Collapse, Halie's Song and When the Music Stops & Say Goodbye to Hollywood. So I can see he also wasn't involved with No Apologies.

Doesn't fit for TES, so I think he was right to leave it off, if it was made for that.

Great song, but can't imagine it fitting on there.

Might do though, as Cleanin' Out My Closet is a heavy piano driven beat and it works... dunno.

Sounds more like after TES and before Encore to me, writing is a bit looser, not quite as sharp as 01 or 02, but not as silly or lazy as Encore. Also not sure what you hear that sounds like 05 Em in the third verse; sounds similar to the other two to me, in the writing and everything.

Completely ignore Disorderly Wiggers opinion. He’s wrong on every level.

Anyway, this is my kinda thread. I didn’t know until recently that No Apologies was found to have a date of September 01. I had speculated before knowing this that No Apologies was likely one of the first ever singers that Eminem and Resto worked solely together on (aside from Girls which indirect was the very first) and I personally think this is where Eminem started realising he can programme his own drums and won’t need DJ Head anymore.

Where were the guitars found by Mongo? In Take It or in No Apologies?

Our resident @Big Monkey found something hidden on the No Apologies mix, some melodic Resto vocoder vocals possibly singing “just let it go” and I thought that was very interesting.

The song is driven by that piano loop, and to me that is not Jeff Bass style. We know there are some added strings in the chorus and a bit of cello in the second verse, which to me screams Resto. I personally don’t think Bass played on this. I think there’s a chance the bass would be live if he did, which he always liked doing. But the bass on No Apologies is clearly from a keyboard.

Although, Bass isn’t credited at all on Til I Collapse, yet I’ve seen a video of his son Jake playing the exact preset that was used for the TIC intro, on his dads old keyboard, as the setting was still saved. So it’s possible he DID play that intro, but for some reason isn’t credited for it. Which leads to the question whether there’s more stuff he played but not credited for.

Also, I could be wrong, but where’s the source that SGTH is the last recorded song for TES? I’d say it was more around the time of Soldier, early-mid 2001 sometime.

To me the last recorded songs for TES sound like White America, Til I Collapse, When The Music Stops and Drips. Some of these you can hear the 2003/Encore voice creeping in a little bit, which was more evident on Rap Game, The Sauce, Nail In the Coffin etc later on.

There’s also been huge speculation on that third verse, and to me his voice sounds almost exactly the same as the first 2. There’s a very small possibility it could be 03 at the very latest, but I just refuse to believe it’s from 2005, especially when you compare it to his When I’m Gone voice.

There’s always that one low IQ peasant who isn’t qualified enough to be a nerd on any topic so has resort to name calling to make himself feel better. Type of kid to eat the dinner scraps out the school bin and dribble all over himself in class.

Not a fan of the loop he got himself in with "hot headed pig headed" etc. Not a fan of the loop he got himself in with "got you feeling me whether willingly or unwillingly you still agree" or the tattoo talk. 2nd verse is great though.

I have no clue about production. Bass/Resto did wonders for Em thats for sure.
