It seems obvious to me that Trump was only promoting Eminem for cultural clout, as he's done with all sorts of people throughout his celebrity (and now political) career. By the time Eminem dissed him he was barely a blip on his radar, no more than Canibus was on Eminem's in 2002, and there was no real love lost anyway.
