Lloyd Banks - The Hunger for More
I think Lloyd Banks has one of the strangest legacies in Hip-Hop. I think everybody agrees that he was the best member of G-Unit (shouts to Buck tho!), and every time a Banks verse comes on, you know it'll be fire. But at the same time, I feel like he's constantly underrated by most people. Like, you'll never hear anyone say that Banks is anything less than good, but I feel like he's not really brought up in the grander Hip-Hop discussions, which is weird.

With that being said, I was really interested to get into The Hunger for More. Despite calling Myers an unc (which he is!), early 2000's hip-hop is probably one of my favorite eras of music ever, and as someone who already liked Banks, this seemed promising. It also reminded me of my fallen COTI brother poop dogg so :emoji_slight_frown:

"Ain't No Click" is a great intro right off the bat, and while I didn't enjoy "Playboy" as much, i still enjoyed it. "Warrior" was REALLY good, and I really liked "On Fire" as well.. Not surprised that it was one of the singles. By this point, I thought the album was pretty d--- strong. That early 00's production is right up my alley, and Banks was pretty solid up to this point.

The momentum continued with "I Get High"", "I'm So Fly", "Work Magic", and "I'm So Gangsta". "Warrior Pt. 2" was the only song that I had heard previously, and it's amazing. I know that early 2000's Em production can be pretty divisive, but I think the beat is great on here, and everybody kills it.

The rest of the album was pretty solid, with "Til the End" and "Die One Day" being especially good.

I had a pretty good time with The Hunger for More. I admit that my love for early 00's rap might cloud my judgement a bit, but it's pretty d--- strong. I do think that is it.a bit frontloaded (most of my favorite tracks are from the first half), but I can't really think of any issues aside from that.. big thanks to @Justin Trudeau for the rec, and yeah
FAVORITES: Ain' No Click, Warrior, On Fire, I Get High, I'm So Fly, Work Magic, I'm So Gangtsta, Warrior Pt. 2

As for tallying, I'll wait until 1 more review drops for Hello Kitty since we only have 4 so far. Once that's tallied, I'll tally up BMEFEI

Loyd banks - The Hunger for More.

First time listening to a solo loyds banks project. I was surprisingly impressed with this,, he's great in g unit but I always considered him not interesting enough to listen to a solo album. Loved the beats and the grimey rapping. He still kind of lacks the X factor i look for in a rapper.

    Strong 7.5/10

Ain’t No Click, When the Chips Are Down

    RIPPER ROO’S RATING: 8/10

The album starts off cold with “Ain’t No Click”. The song is okay but doesn’t stand out to me, and if I wasn’t doing a review of this album I might’ve stopped listening there. It’s a good thing I kept listening though because that 8 track run from “Playboy” to “Warrior, Pt. 2” is definitely the best part of the album. Lloyd Banks was really on fire in that section providing catchy b-----r after catchy b-----r. The hooks in that section are all massive ear worms.

The album starts to fall off again a little bit with “Karma”. It’s a cool, smooth song but doesn’t carry the heat the previous tracks did. Then the album dips even lower when we get to “When the Chips Are Down”. This is easily the worst song on the album. It’s not bad but very mediocre especially with that weak a--- hook when a lot of the previous tracks had such fire hooks.

Finally we get to another good section of the album with “Til the End”. This song finally changes up the vibe of the album which is great because I must admit the album was starting to get repetitive at this point with the subject matter and similar songs. “Til the End” is the most serious song here and really makes you lock in to the lyrics, which is also kinda what “Die One Day” and “Southside Story” do to end off the album while still having some interesting hooks.

I gotta shoutout “Playboy” that beat is crazy and Lloyd Banks does my favorite flow on the whole album. Sounds like a classic. I also gotta shoutout “Work Magic” for my favorite punchline on the whole album: “Cause you don’t need to practice gymnastics to catch a body”. I also gotta shoutout Snoop Dogg for having the weakest verse on the whole f---ing album, he almost ruined “I Get High”. Anyway, this album is great and I can see why some people think it’s a classic. @AOTWClub
