Jun 29, 2015 see i don't hate instituionalized but there's too many highs and lows on one song for me to properly enjoy it pretty similar to trying to listen to modern eminem actually, so I just avoid it
Jun 29, 2015 It was a 10/10 when I initially heard it and it's still a 10/10 for me now. This album set the standard so high for hip hop this year. It's the best album of the year and I don't see anyone topping it. I used to think he couldn't top GKMC. If he tops TPAB, his legacy will be cemented as one of the GOATs. Favorite tracks: U These Walls Wesley's theory How Much A Dollar Cost? Mortal Man Alright Hood Politics King Kunta Honorable Mentions: You Ain't Gotta Lie For Sale? Institutionalized The Blacker The Berry
Jun 29, 2015 From the mastery of the jazz to the excellence of the lyrics to the cohesion to the message, everything about this album is engaging and well executed. Problem is, it's a really niche sound (jazz) and topic (black empowerment, kendricks sob stories) so it's not very accessible and its easy for people to dismiss it since this isn't music you can play anytime. Still quite possibly the most technically proficient rap album I've heard, and its near-perfect critical reception is well deserved. Probably like a 9.4 right up there with MBDTF
Jun 29, 2015 I listened to it 2 and a half times within the first couple weeks it came out... haven't touched it since, nor have I had the desire to do so.
Jun 29, 2015 It honestly feels more than 3 months. Was on constant rotation for a good month or so, but now I find myself playing a few select songs. Haven't listened to the album as a whole in a good while. Still really like the album though. A solid 8.5 for sure with many gems on there.
Jun 29, 2015 Good album Favorite Track: How Much A Dollar Cost I dont really understand this 'replay value' thing. I replay every album I get during its release, after that I put my phone on shuffle till another album comes out.
