Now before yall come in ready to flame, I am not here to hate on this man. I am just really curious as to why people gravitate towards his music. I gave Thug alot of chances. I listened to Barter 6 like 5 times, I tried to get through that Rich g--- Tour mixtape, but I just didn't hear anything that deserved much acclaim. I thought About The Money was catchy as h--- but that's about it. His flow and cadence is dope and he has good beat selection but I don't see anything else in him besides that. I gravitate towards lyricism and substance the most in hip hop music I listen to but I can also appreciate the other intricacies like flow and production.

I don't have a problem with his image. I actually admire it because it reminds me of Lil B, an eccentric personality that doesn't give a f--- about what people think. They both also are known to rile up homophobes, go against the grain, have a CRAZY work ethic, have a cult like following, and choose great beats. Their similarities make me want to give Thug one more chance because I like Lil B and I grew to like Lil B after I dug a little deeper into his catalog and listened to his stuff with an open mind for what it is. Im trying to do the same for Thug. I consider myself to be a pretty open minded person so I haven't completely written him off yet.

But enough of my rambling. What is the appeal of Young Thug? What got you hooked to Thug's music? Why does he deserve his own section? What do you see in his music that makes it good in your opinion? What is his best work?

Lil B has a personality, Young Thug doesn't.

EDIT: Narsh please don't come at me I don't have time for another argument.

Its just sonically pleasing for me. He's not really saying much, but its fun to sing/rap along to his songs.

^Nothing wrong with that comment tbh

Don't feel forced to "like him", a lot of people think that just because you dislike the music of an artist like Young Thug you are automatically a backpacker that "doesn't know how to have fun".

No need to generalize, I like other artists that are not necessarily deep in terms of their lyrical content. Thugger is just really bad overall imo

He's got the best flows in rap at the moment. He's full of charisma. His persona is enigmatic. His work ethic is insane. Etc.

You're only going to get serious responses from like 3 people in this thread so I won't even bother trying to elaborate.

You have a better mindset/grasp on the topic than 99% of people that "try" to give him a chance so I think you'll be able to tell for yourself why he's one of the best rappers alive.

To people saying not to bother because you don't initially fall in love with it, It's actually rewarding to learn to appreciate music you don't understand rightaway. Props to OP for his sincere interest in broadening his horizons. Took me a while to warm up to Thugger myself.

    He sounds good.
I enjoy Thugs melodies more than I enjoy Em's choppy flow over questionable mixing :jordan:
Sure, other artists deliver more content in their lyrics...but this:
    is spot on.

Edit: Don't want to start an Em v. Thug war, either. Just personal preference. If I want content, I'll listen to Kendrick or Em and enjoy it.

If I want a fun/good sound that I can just drive to and not think about s---, I'll listen to Thug and enjoy it just as much.

That reward is exactly why I'm giving him another chance to grow on me. I do the same with alot of artists. I didn't like Curren$y at first but once I dug deeper into his catalog sat back and vibed out to his music I became a Spitta fan and appreciated his music for what it was. Salute
