This Weekend i saw 1) Mario Bava's Black Sabbath. The director managed to craft very atmospheric moments with a great photography but i didn't feel truly horrified. 7.5/10

    2) Michael Radford's Nineteen Eighty-Four, it was a good adaptation to Orwell's novel, cinematography accomplished its mission as it really captured the environment which the story takes place, however, the film isn't as captivating as the novel. Reading the book first helps the film more, this made me enjoy the film a bit more. 7.5/10

The last act of Blackhat is the best thing Michael Mann has ever done.

Feel like I'm missing out with Blackhat. Had a hard time with it the first time.

Have since become a Mann Stan after watching The Insider and Miami Vice so maybe I'll like it more on a re-watch.

Yeah dude, rewatch it. I just finished my rewatch and appreciated it even more than the first time, pretty comfortably my favorite film of the year at this point. I think I had a similar problem as you with Miami Vice a few years ago, didn't think it was all that initially, have seen it a few more times over the years and have gained an appreciation for it but I think seeing it again now after being on this Mann kick would put it into proper perspective.

I watched Mad Max Fury Road for the third time. This'll end up being one of my favourite movies of all time.

By the way, speaking of Hard to be a God, Aleksey German's son Aleksey German Jr. has a film coming up, too. It premiered at Berlin this year, if I'm not mistaken. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4285198/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_1 http://letterboxd.com/film/under-electric-clouds/

Fyi, the Criterion 50% off sale began at Barnes and Noble. I believe it goes until July 27.

Yeah, I'll definitely pick something up, but not sure yet what that will be. I'm open to recommendations!

On a related note, I just watched the Criterion of I Married a Witch. I can't say it was great, but it was mostly cute with some nifty camera tricks, plus Veronica Lake :emoji_heart:

Hmm first thing that pops into my head is the recent Blu Ray release of Bergman's Cries and Whispers, it's really something. You can take a look at my collection if you need any random recs, they're all confirmed bangers http://www.criterion.com/my_criterion/127334-vahn/collection

On another note, I just watched Michael Mann's Public Enemies and was really impressed, having seen most of his films now, I can safely say Mann is among my favorite American auteurs ever. Johnny Depp was really strong in his role too, it makes me wish that he would work with talented filmmakers more often.
