Sep 27, 2017 I think that's more something that Recovery and subsequent albums have done. Also Encore...
Sep 27, 2017 Not true at all Recovery was a huge success and MMLP2 wasn't anything surprising Idc if you like relapse that's fine but acknowledge your side on this
Sep 27, 2017 A huge success, yes, but it absolutely split people up in his fanbase due to the drastic change in sound, and now it's not very well liked, with a lot of people overtime coming 'round to Relapse.
Sep 27, 2017 more like alienated everybody that wasn't his fanbase. recovery brought in whole crop of newbies. as for disappointment, there might have initially been some from his fans - after a hiatus like that you expect an explanation or some insight that was mostly missing from relapse. But that didn't make it a bad album, just ahead of it's time in that respect.
Sep 27, 2017 The change in sound isn't that drastic compared to the change in direction and subject matter of Relapse which was the most drastic shift of his post SSLP career. No one came around to it except stans on forums. Most casual Eminem fans and newer Em fans don't even listen to that record or songs like Must Be the Ganja and such lol.
Sep 27, 2017 relapse most definitely alienated his fanbase, too. We agree slightly on your second statement though...but I wouldn't call the record ahead of its time simply because it was released at the wrong time. It was just a bad decision/direction overall.
Sep 27, 2017 Lol how do you figure that... Relapse is just a focused effort to dive headfirst into Slim Shady-esque territory that has been a part of his sound/career since the start. It absolutely works as an Eminem album. Recovery is not Eminems style or sound at all. That is the drastic shift dude. Lol
Sep 27, 2017 Also let's be clear about why Recovery even "succeeded": It wasn't due to anything Em in particular was doing on that, it came down to s--- like Love The Way You Lie blowing up with Rihanna.
Sep 27, 2017 Misconception. Relapse isn't really as much of a personification of Slim Shady as people like to say it is, and it isn't SSLP2 either. There's a reason it isn't remotely as similar or liked by the general populous as much as that album and that's because it isn't anything like it. Slim Shady wasn't/isn't a serial killer stalker creepy Arabic r--ist, he's an evil a------ joker who does drugs, more or less. Hate that this idea has spread to people "oh, relapse is slim shady". Maybe that's what Marshall intended, to, but he greatly missed his target or forgot what he wanted to do as he went along the process. He made something new that was out of place and awkward that people didn't like. Recovery was a huge change in styles (as insinuated by the op; Eminem sold out on this album), but compared to Relapse which was something completely new (whether by intention or accident), Recovery was still very much Eminem. Sure, he rapped over generally cheap pop beats since he hit up radio producers...he changed his rap style (more punchlines for example) and used his regular voice for the first time since Encore (which had changed somewhat too) But it was still Eminem, rapping about Eminem stuff.
Sep 27, 2017 well i dont like the song either mostly cuz everyone was listening to it and it got annoying , also 2 or 3 lines that are not eminem level
Sep 27, 2017 how tf he changed his cadence ? he uses like a different one for every song , i dont get this guy @Changeling at all
Sep 27, 2017 for me relapse is almost at the level of his first 3 recovery is almost as average as encore , the only thing saving is not having as many lows as encore
