May 10, 2016 Id be interested to hear some of your choices for a list like that! Quite confident if I made a top 10 bands list they'd make it.
May 10, 2016 Flip Amnesiac and The Bends and you've got my exact ranking. My initial feel for the new one is that it'll edge out Amnesiac for the #4 spot, but it's far too early to say that definitively. As for the best band of all time...I think it'd be insane to look at that discography and say that they aren't in the conversation. As far as personal favorites go, they are at this point almost certainly my #1. But even if we get more objective about it and take personal preference out of it...there aren't too many discographies that can f--- with that one, are there?
May 10, 2016 Maybe I was too knee-jerk to say they wouldn't be on a shortlist--they're in my top ten as well. EDIT: @Swizz just saw your post--you think it edges Amnesiac? Interesting. Don't necessarily disagree but I hadn't thought about where it would fit yet.
May 10, 2016 Not sure yet, just a gut reaction. Amnesiac has a lot of Radiohead's most underrated songs - Life In a Glasshouse, Pyramid Song, Dollars & Cents, Like Spinning Plates. It's probably the most immersive piece of work they've done, at least if you look at it purely from an atmospheric standpoint. I can get lost in that album. At the same time, it's got some of the band's most frustrating tracklist choices ever. Pulk/Pull? The redundant Morning Bell reprise? Does anything on any album you've heard k--- final act momentum more than Hunting Bears does? For all of Amnesiac's undeniable strengths, its tracklist is far from perfect. This one doesn't quite have the highs I mentioned above, but I think it's far more consistent. We'll see what I think in five years.
May 10, 2016 I don't think this album beats out any of the radiohead holy trinity, but it's something special. A grower, one that gets better with each listen
May 10, 2016 Their three best albums alone could make it into my top 15 or 20 favorite albums of all time. They're worthy of that top spot
May 10, 2016 I've not listened to radioheads full discography OKC Kid A In Rainbows The Bends A Moon Shaped Pool Where do I go from here?
May 10, 2016 I thought you were saying they were the best band ever??????????? lol If you're already initiated into Kid A I would maybe say to go for Amnesiac next.
May 10, 2016 Amnesiac is so, so f---ing good. Probably won't reveal itself to you instantly though - give it time.
