this is obviously part of the midterms, and i know there's a thread for that, but it's also horrifyingly permanent.

for all trump et al.'s fear mongering about [poor/black/brown/etc] voters voting "illegally" –– there is no evidence this happens at any noticeable rate at all –– election fraud, and manipulation of the electoral playing field is now a fixed part of american politics.

so, simple question: given the near-ubiquity, in many states, of republican efforts to disenfranchise or dissuade [poor/black/brown/etc] voters from casting ballots, why should we continue to treat these elections as legitimate?

this is to say nothing of the gerrymandering that's made the electoral map anything but a representative sample of the population.

Youre right: gerrymandering belongs in a separate box, but it's equally ridiculous. We will see how PA turns blue now that there's been intervention.

But to your specific question: man... if GA dems don't win this gubernatorial race.... some serious shenanigans. I'll be so mad. (aka I'm gonna call for the perm ban of any and all Trump supporting posters here, tbh.)

A lot of this is also associated with the Shelby County v. Holder Supreme Court case which gutted the voting rights act. I made this point a while back on here & well... people didn’t seem to agree:

We need a new voting rights act.
