Jan 2, 2016 47: Spoiler: 47 Hallie's Song Album: The Eminem Show Spoiler: Rap Genius Description After a tough battle, Em won custody of his beloved daughter Hallie over her mother, his ex-wife Kim. That battle and the joy he felt in winning was the inspiration for this song. This track was actually never supposed to be released. Marshall recorded it for Hailie and had planned on locking it away until she was older and then giving it to her. Dr. Dre loved the track so much he played it for two women, who upon hearing it, actually cried. Their reaction is what made Dre tell him he needs to release it and so they did. This is also the reason for the censored words in the third verse.
Jan 2, 2016 45: Spoiler: 45 Go to Sleep Spoiler: Rap Genius Contributor: Eminem’s verse is a diss to Benzino. He’s only dissing Ja Rule in the last bar. This song came out in february 2003. Ja Rule didn’t mention Hailie in a song until april 2003. The reason he’s saying Ja Rule can get it too, is because Ja Rule was threatening Eminem and Dr. Dre in interviews. He was saying he would diss Eminem and Dr. Dre if they allowed 50 Cent to diss him.
Jan 2, 2016 44: Spoiler: 44 Like Toy Soldiers: Album: Encore Spoiler: Rap Genius Contribution Eminem’s emotional and conscious plea against violence in hip-hop, from his fifth album Encore. He details many of the beefs he and his friends have pulled (or not pulled) each other in to. The beat was produced by Eminem along with Luis Resto and features a sample of Martika’s “Toy Soldiers”.
Jan 2, 2016 43 Spoiler: 43 The Real Slim Shady! Spoiler: 43 Album: The Marshall Mathers LP Spoiler: 43 Spoiler: Fun Facts: Eminem performed this at the 2000 MTV Video Music awards, in a very memorable performance. Trailed by a legion of lookalikes, Eminem entered from outside Radio City Music Hall and performed the song on the way in. The guys playing the doppelgängers all had to dye their hair Eminem-blond for the performance. Kathy Griffin is the voice at the beginning that announces, "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?" She is in the video. Griffin was on the TV show Suddenly Susan. The chorus from this song was included at the end of Weird Al Yankovic's "Angry White Boy Polka" on his album Poodle Hat. (thanks, Steph - SoCal, CA) The judge who sentenced Eminem to a fine and community service for pointing a gun at the road manager of the Insane Clown Posse told him "Now is the time to please stand up," a reference to the line "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up." The Wisconsin radio station WZEE was fined $7,000 by the FCC for playing an unedited version of this song. The station claimed a technical malfunction caused the CD player to cue up the wrong track. The FCC also fined Colorado radio station KKMG $7,000 for playing the edited version of this, claiming the song was "patently offensive." The fines were rescinded after the rap industry made the case that banning this is a violation of free speech. Source: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1210
