Sep 2, 2016 lol white rappers or Elvis=often misappropriation. Rap has a long history with punk, rock dating back to at least the 80s... regardless tho the genre is based on picking, flipping pieces from other art forms and incorporating them. so its fine. (as long as its done artfully/organically imo. i think the slapdash glossy pop rap songs of the late 90s are an example were it becomes too overtly commercial)
Sep 2, 2016 LOL! n-----. Little Richard the real king of Rock 'n' Roll. Elvis bit off him "AND" Chuck Berry. First major-selling Swagger-Jacker. This preceded "Milli Vanilli" Get mad about it. He made the piano a rock instrument. Think about that while you're listening to John Satriani Shredding Tutorial Vids or whatever.
Sep 2, 2016 I agree with what you're saying I just don't think it's really relevant to the discussion And I don't think wearing shirts of bands you don't like to look trendy or label yourself as a rager, rockstar but not actually care at all about the culture isn't organic or artistically sound imo
Sep 2, 2016 Because they are a minority, and they are not "appropriating" the culture of a whole ethnical group like what you're trying to insinuate in OP. I don't necessarily agree, but that's the basic explanation. With that being said, there are very few cases of actual cultural appropriation in rap music. Iggy Azalea is the only one that comes on mind right now. She stole flows, styles and accents ranging from 90's Memphis to contemporary pop music, then twisted it and made a profit out of it. That doesn't mean she's inherently racist, but it's still f----- up.
Sep 2, 2016 The Hip Hop response would be that Black people also inadvertently created modern Rock, so they're not really appropriating. Now you could make a case for rappers like Wu-Tang and their affiliates using Kung Fu flicks and Asian culture in their music.
Sep 2, 2016 Ya I understand that I think Iggy is the one that is the most undeniable other than that it feels like reach city
Sep 2, 2016 They just gush trendy political buzz terms like "systematic racism", "cultural appropriation", "white privilege", etc. to act canny and make themselves look more conscious than they really are. Don't read too much into it.
Sep 2, 2016 I just think that whole idea of black people being able to take ownership of all rock music like that is ridiculous When a herb like vic mensa wears a slayer tee that has nothing to do with chuck berry and the origins of rock it's between him and that band and their fans
Sep 2, 2016 Lol ur right I mean my stance on this whole thing is who gives af if you're corny you're corny but people really call someone like Justin Bieber racist for having dreads that s--- is insane to me
Sep 2, 2016 Marshall did a great job surrounding himself with black people so he would not be considered a vulture. People don't realize the importance of d12 when he first hit the national scene. Him surrounded by a group of black dudes from Detroit gave off this perception that he was actually from Detroit when in reality most of his childhood was in the suburbs
