Jul 31, 2016 9/10 There isn't a single weak track on the tape. Travis really peaked on this project as he had developed his sound to the edge of perfection since Owl Pharaoh. My fave tracks include The Prayer, Drugs You Should Try, Skyfall & Backyard
Aug 1, 2016 just realised something. The Prayer came out wayyy before Throw Some Mo so how in the actual f--- is it a beefed up TSM beat
Aug 1, 2016 Mike Will sent the beat to Travis and instead of paying for it he took the snippet and had wundagurl recreate it. The original Throw Sum Mo had been finished before No Flex Zone was recorded, it's just getting thug and nicki and finishing the rest of the album that took time.
Aug 1, 2016 source? and (im sorry if i sound really dumb and ignorant here but i gotta clarify) is it really necessary for him to pay for a beat thats on a mixtape which is available on the internet for free?
Aug 1, 2016 There's videos of rae sremm performing throw sum mo back when they were nonames, well well before DBR came out. I think they might have also touched on it in their ama. I tried googling "throw sum mo 2013" and its just a bunch of fanmade s---, either its buried in there or got wiped after they blew up, but keep in mind music isn't released as soon as it's recorded, and for what it's worth I can vouch that with my own eyes I saw the video I'm referring to but I understand without being able to link you to it its a moot point. And as for the free tape thing, every beat and feature on that tape was paid for (hopefully). That's how mixtapes work, artists don't care what your final plans are, producers don't care what your final plans are, they did their work and deserve compensation. That's why rappers that drop tapes all the time are constantly doing shows.
Aug 1, 2016 @ThyNeighbour for what it's worth I found the original thread I was reading, Spoiler I don't have any tangible proof but going off of comments in that thread, throw sum mo was already being circulated by some (enough to get leaked to a lucky few) so if it's getting circulated it's because they were either gonna scrap it and were offering the beat up or sent the beat for someone to record a feature verse (in which case Travis was around thugger A LOT leading up to DBR so it's entirely plausible that he took the file and gave it to wundagurl to tweak it.)
Aug 1, 2016 Thug's sisters basically confirmed he jacked pick up the phone. h--- there was even a dude on SXN80 who talked about how Travis stole files from his friend while they were passed out. Way too much anecdotal evidence to ignore. Forget biting, he's a legitimate thief.
Aug 1, 2016 everything is perfect about this project: dope verses, fire instrumentals, perfect features, goat ad-libs days before rodeo is basically the reason why travis is my fav artist rn 10/10
Aug 1, 2016 I don't believe the guy who was on s80. I believe Travis stole beats for OGOP, stole from mike will, stole from Allen ritter, etc etc, but I don't believe forum randos who're just looking for attention.
Aug 1, 2016 Idk why but I was inclined to believe him cuz he kinda flew under the radar and posted normally other than that.
Aug 1, 2016 Btw for reference I don't ever count 9-10/10 or 0/10 ratings unless people put at least as much effort as @ThyNeighbour into their blurbs. I'm more lenient with people who participate every time than with people who come in just to give their favorite album a 10.
Aug 1, 2016 I still have to listen to this, I've heard a few songs off of it just randomly but Rodeo is the only full project I've actually heard from Travis.
Aug 7, 2016 6.5/10 This was the first project that really turned me onto Travis. I had heard Owl Pharoah prior but only liked about 3-4 songs. I found Days Before Rodeo pretty unique with some solid bangers. Don't Play, Quintana Pt. 2, and The Prayer are my favorite tracks. While I enjoy it, I don't rate it as high as everyone cause I never listened to it a lot and it doesn't pull me in as much as it does for everyone else. I missed the last two ratings cause I wasn't very familiar with those albums. I've never been a huge Gucci fan so I've only skimmed through The State vs. Radric Davis. I didn't like it outside of the singles. I've heard good things about his newest album so I'm gonna listen to it soon. It's been sitting on my phone. Embarrassed to say I've never heard a UGK album though. I downloaded Ridin Dirty not too long ago and still haven't listened to that either.
Aug 7, 2016 5/10 there's nothing offensively bad with dbr but i literally have no desire to spin this ever again. travis on this kinda reminds me of modern day j.cole in the sense that every time I listen to this tape it just makes me want to listen to his more talented influences rather than travis himself. I can vibe to the production tho.
Aug 12, 2016 I honestly used to really like this album and I think it was on my list of favorite albums of 2014. Once I got deeper into trap I realized how much he's kinda just an amalgam of influences and doesn't do anything original (not to mention he's a deplorable human being). That being said, you can still enjoy something even if it's unoriginal - the first six songs still hold up really well for me, but other than Sloppy Toppy the back half of the album is a chore to slog through. 6/10
