Feb 21, 2015 6/10 I wasn't expecting to like this at all, but it's actually fairly decent. Good production, Thug & RHQ actually sound good together, even though I can't make out 50% of the lyrics. Tons of catchy songs.
Feb 21, 2015 Kinda disappointing that some people won't even give this a chance...but at the same time, I do think people are overrating it a bit. It's a relentlessly fun album that shows a massive amount of talent and potential, but let's not pretend it isn't bogged down by some filler. As strong as the A-side is, there are some pretty questionable songs on the latter half. I know it's more of a "traditional" mixtape, but I still don't think it needed to be 20 songs long. Gonna go with a 7.8
Feb 21, 2015 I'm a pull up, eat on that p---- and dip I'm a keep one inside the chamber like Wilt Baby girl spoiled and she spoileder than milk And keep her on my side like a f---in' hip I don't think many people praise this for the lyrics. It's strengths are the chemistry between Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, the production, the melodies, and the overall atmosphere of the mixtape.
Feb 21, 2015 He's going to visit his girl and eat her out Instead of bustin a nut he'll keep one in the chamber (wilt chamberlian) His baby girls spoiled like milk He'll keep her on his side like a hip or like his gun Flames
Feb 21, 2015 well to be fair wilt chamberlain had like 50 illegitimate children so the reference doesn't really make sense
Feb 21, 2015 Lol I understand the lyrics, I just think they're bad. The thing is, for me that was one of the more memorable hooks on the tape, then I actually read the lyrics and they're terrible. I guess Young Thug excels at making gibberish sound alright. "spoileder"
Feb 22, 2015 Based upon 12 ratings, Sxn80 gives Tha Tour Part 1 a 7.2. [2/22/15] Big Boi - Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty @helpmefam @Flacko @CharlieWork @Meero @Fire Squad @Mike Tyson @Five Star @Narsh @Blaza @Pixel @Tha Story @Acid Sav @Rick C @BroadStBully2 @Piiizzy @WPG @Bleed @Radeem @Skippy @Term-X @Creation @Gamba Mamba @Maad City @sindy @Griff @Grimace @Raziel @6ixgawd @Dew Remember yall, recommendations are always welcome!
Feb 22, 2015 7.8/10 - Some really good songs (Shutterbugg, Night Night, Tangerine, Turns Me On) and some forgettable ones (Be Still, General Patton, Follow Us). I still revisit the high points, but as an album it hasn't held up as well as I'd hoped. Album has solid, catchy production. I especially liked the beats provided by Organized Noize. Overall, an inconsistent solo debut from Big Boi. Recommendations for future reviews: Atmosphere - God Loves Ugly, The Roots - How I Got Over, Danny Brown - ---
Feb 23, 2015 8/10. Good and very fun record, it has a few songs that I don't really care about, but I still enjoy its bangers. Daddy Fat Sax and Shutterbug are my favourite songs. I listen to the whole thing from time to time and like it more than Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumours which wasn't bad, but kinda forgettable I'd say, for me at least. Nice thread, I wasn't here for a few days so @BigCountry could you add me in the mention list again? Thanks dude Also, my suggestion would be W.A.R. by Pharoahe Monch. PTSD is fresher, but I'm curious about his album from 2011 because I haven't seen people mention it but I like it. And ofc Pharo Munch is a great rapper to get into.
Feb 23, 2015 Didn't see this thread until now, can I get added to the mention list @BigCountry Luscious Left Foot is an 8/10 for me. Very fun album
Feb 23, 2015 8.1/10 - Big Boi put up a tremendous effort to make a solid piece of work without his partner in rhyme. Most of the songs here aged pretty well meanwhile others were a bit unspectacular. Nominating - Long Live A$AP
Feb 24, 2015 Not gonna give it a rating because I listened to it twice and never gave it another chance. And by listen I mean skim through it. Nothing really caught my attention so I don't care for it. The production on Shutterbug was catchy but overall it felt kinda corny like the rest of the album to me. I enjoy a handful of tracks from Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors, so I'm not sure why I couldn't get into this one. As a suggestion, I would nominate Mac Miller's Watching Movies With The Sound Off. It's a great album that never gets mentioned.
Feb 24, 2015 8/10 I like the bubblegum type production and big boi rides them perfectly. The second half had some tracks that were boring imo but it is overall a very strong album. I nominate Thank Me Later by Drake.
Feb 24, 2015 8.5/10. If people still think Big Boi isn't as talented as Andre, look no further. I enjoy every song on the album to some extent, and absolutely love a lot of them. I was skeptical of all the guest features at first, but most of them add to the song rather than just fill up space. Even though I like MBDTF more now, at the time, this was my favorite album of 2010. I thought Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors was decent. I was glad to see Big Boi further experimenting with sounds and working with different artists, but overall it fell a bit short, especially in comparison to his first solo.
Feb 24, 2015 Gonna leave this one up for another 24 hours because I know there's at least one other person waiting to post their rating and I'm tryina get at least 10 ratings per album. There will be a new album up tomorrow, but in the meantime I made a separate version for Dark Sky Paradise: http://sectioneighty.com/forum/rate-this-album-dark-sky-paradise.t30291/ Might start doing this for all featured albums after we've had a week to sit on them. Will be interesting to go back to them in six months and see how our ratings changed.
Feb 24, 2015 can we get seperate threads for this? but probably an 8.5. took me a while to get around to this but certainly a rewarding album. very strong production, outkast flows. big boi hasn't fallen off at all.
Feb 24, 2015 I feel like it would clutter things up too much to do multiple threads, though if more people want me to do it that way I'm down. With one thread it makes it easy to keep track of the ratings for everything.
Feb 24, 2015 8.2/10. Really entertaining album. Better than Speakerboxx, but still not quite what it could've been, especially given how long he had to potentially work on it. Shutterbugg alone makes the album worth it.
