Nov 20, 2018 Life After Death gets 9.8/10 from 9 ratings By the way, feel free to give your ratings for previous albums if you haven’t already, I can always just update the score. Anyways, next up… RATING 4: Denzel Curry - TA13OO Release Date: 27 July 2018 Label: PH/Loma Vista Tracklist: Act 1: Light 01. Taboo 02. Black Balloons ft. Twelve’len & GoldLink 03. Cash Maniac ft. Nyyjerya 04. Sumo Act 2: Gray 05. Super Saiyan Superman 06. Switch It Up 07. Mad I Got It 08. Sirens ft. J.I.D. 09. Clout Cobain Act 3: Dark 10. The Blackest Balloon 11. Percs 12. Vengeance ft. JPEGMAFIA & Zillkami 13. Black Metal Terrorist I wasn’t sure what to expect for Denzel’s follow up to 2016’s Imperial (which was very good). I had mixed feelings about the first single, Clout Cobain and its accompanying video. Was Denzel going full Juggalo on us? But Denzel exceeded my expectations with this album. I love how well the sequencing works, from ‘light’ to ‘gray’ to ‘dark’ (even though the transition from disc 1 to 2 isn’t perfect). Disc 3 is particularly brilliant, just as dark and evil as its title suggests. This is pretty much exactly what I’d want to hear from a Denzel project and I see only bright things ahead if he continues on this trajectory. I’d give it an 8/10 @RateThisAlbum
Nov 20, 2018 this album seems like it's gonna be a disaster from the first couple of songs, but it sort of course-corrects. curry is obviously a talented guy, but his records feel like less than the sum of their parts, and this, to me, was a clear regression from imperial. something like a 6/10
Nov 20, 2018 I feel the same about the first few songs, nothing really clicked there for me at first. But thought the last 2/3rds more than makes up for it imo, especially that final act. Oddly I found the opposite with Imperial, even though its short I much preferred the first half.
Nov 20, 2018 I'm not sure there are many people here listened to this album to rate it but I like the album a lot so whatever, first of all I didn't know that album was in 3 acts like that. That makes the album definitely better. First song I have heard from this was Cash maniac and I loved it. Then I listened to the whole s--- and it was actually pretty good. That was the first time I have ever heard Denzel Curry. I was impressed. I probably gotta listen to the album again to give it a proper rating but as I remember it was like 7.5/10.
Nov 20, 2018 6.5/10 Denzel is phenomenal when he's focused on a singular subject, problem was whatever concept he had in mind for this album probably sounded better in his head and the project suffers because of it. But outside of the execution flaw, Curry's chameleon-like talents shine in a couple of songs (Clout Cobain in particular), those moments where it sounds like he's rapping like his life depended on it are what makes this record merit a listen. With this and Imperial he's still figuring out things but I like this niche he's carved for himself, hopefully as he matures he'll continue improving.
Nov 20, 2018 When he was first dropping the Acts as lil EPs, I was interested. I didn't really like the first Act cause it was pretty uninteresting with the overly positive Black Balloons and Cash Maniac, but it picked up after Sumo. The rest of the album from Sumo and afterwards is amazing though. All of them really interesting songs with great beats. The concept of the album isn't that strong and the structure is a mess at times, but this is still a really really good collection of songs cause even my least favorites are still decent. 8/10
Nov 23, 2018 TA13OO gets a 7.2/10 from 5 ratings Next up... RATING 5: Travis Scott - ASTROWORLD Release Date: 3 August 2018 Label: Cactus Jack/Epic/Grand Hustle Track list 01. Stargazing 02. Carousel ft. Frank Ocean 03. Sicko Mode ft. Drake 04. R.I.P. Screw ft. Swae Lee 05. Stop Trying To Be God ft. Kid Cudi, James Blake 06. No Bystanders ft. Juice WRLD, Sheck Wes 07. Skeletons ft. Pharrell, The Weeknd 08. Wake Up ft. The Weeknd 09. 5% Tint 10. NC-17 ft. 21 Savage 11. Astrothunder 12. Yosemite ft. Gunna, Nav 13. Can't Say ft. Don Toliver 14. Who? What? ft. Quavo, Takeoff 15. Butterfly Effect 16. Houstonfornication 17. Coffee Bean ASTROWORLD is a journey, from the first psychedelic seconds of Stargazing to the Kanye-inspired Coffee Bean. After letting it sit for a while, I've decided that Rodeo is still the better album; Astroworld doesn't feel quite as tightly put together, nor do its individual songs have quite as much staying power (in my opinion, at least). But still, Travis' does an incredible job as "the glue" of the project, bringing in diverse sounds and features from across the map and actually holding them all together with his otherworldly reverb and autotune. It sounds like a celebration; something that we can look back on in a few years as a reference point for the overarching sound of pop rap/hip hop in 2018. Travis is always going to be facing accusations of biting and riding off other people's sounds and styles but hey, its what he does best. And like on Rodeo, there's just enough of his own sound coming through to pull it all together. I'll give it a very solid 7.5/10 @RateThisAlbum
Nov 23, 2018 4.5/10 Not terrible but its sooo long and the song formulas are repetitive unlike rodeo and birds. Like in the second half it feels like im just listening to the same song over and over again that weeknd song is trash and the drake one is absolutely awful. I swear to god if i hear that annoyimg fuckinf drake hook again i will murder someone. Only good songs are rip screw and houstonfornication which is a very underrated song
Nov 23, 2018 maybe we should just do away with blurbs? or make them non-compulsory to rate? I'm more interested in the rating tbh.
Nov 23, 2018 Well, I like Travis Scott. But the album was too long. I can't even be sure which tracks I liked more by looking at the tracklist because half of the s--- sounded really similar to each other. The guy posted before me kinda said the same thing so I was so lazy to write the same thing lol.
Nov 23, 2018 Only heard it twice but it's too repetive to me. Not bad I guess, but I never got into TS in the first place. It has some standouts for sure but overall it bores me; like Travis in general. It also doesn't help that its so long. After @Xmipod told me I tried out 'Rodeo' and I like that one a lot more. 6.5/10
Nov 23, 2018 No blurbs is boring though, and then you get people just posting “10/10” or “0/10” with no reasoning
Nov 23, 2018 Yeah agree If u get rid of blurbs you might as well just post a poll.. and have 0 replies. Blurbs are doors to discussions
