Nov 18, 2018 Ready To Die is better than this actually. I have always felt like there were some fillers on this album but still a classic album. I like Biggie flow a lot.
Nov 18, 2018 Both are easily 10/10s If I had a complaint about LAD its the length but thats just personal as I enjoy shorter albums
Nov 18, 2018 agreed there are a few skips on LAD. Especially on Disc 2. But the highs more than make up for it.
Nov 18, 2018 10/10, and even that feels too low Ready To Die was already a masterpiece and LAD upped the game in nearly every regard. Big became a more descriptive and technical rapper over time, and the significantly more varied production let him experiment with his voice and style in a way he never had before. But for all the additional polish, Big is still the same rapper he ever was; LAD is a bigger, more extravagant album than RTD but is just as grounded, keeping everything based firmly in his reality. The Biggie who raps on Mo Money Mo Problems is unquestionably the same Biggie who made Things Done Changed. I hear accusations of filler being thrown around a lot, but it would be a travesty to cut any song from here except maybe f--- U Tonight. For my money, the best rap album ever made, it’s just a shame that Big didn’t get to enjoy its success.
Nov 18, 2018 100/10 10/10 To me this is the best rap album of all time, or at least it competes with like 3 other titles I'm thinking of. Biggies evolution from the downcasted kingpin from RTD to the rap overlord is a marvel to see, even when he's still talking hustler tales it's more nuanced and polished. The ominous vibe that Suicidal Thoughts had in RTD was amplified further throughout LAD, it's especially palpable in the tail end of this album where it ends with You're Nobody--still get chills listening to that one. Lastly this has arguably the most iconic singles in any rap album, I dare any of you to try sitting still when Hypnotize comes on. On a personal note, Mo Money Mo Problems was the song that singlehandedly turned 5 year old me into a hip-hop head forever. I love this d--- album
Nov 18, 2018 Oh man it’s been prolly d--- near two years since I gave this a front to back spin. Ima do that today!
Nov 18, 2018 Biggie really had it all man. He’s probably the most talented rapper to ever live. His voice, charisma, technical ability, flow etc. He was also able to mesh all these traits together to perfection. You know, most rap artists make that distinction of okay... this song is going to be more technical or this song is going to have more rhythm for radio appeal etc. Biggie defied all that. Dude could just rap & the appeal would be wide: radios would play it, streets would f--- with it, hip-hop heads loved it etc. His diversity was incredible & I think this album really shows that. From having you scared for Jason on “Somebody’s Gotta Die” to wanting to dance with “Hypnotize” to wondering if you’re in The Godfather with “What’s Beef?” Etc. A true master of his craft. 9.5/10.
Nov 18, 2018 10/10. Biggie is the goat. Ready to Die and Life After Death are both 10/10. Regardless of the filler on LAD, it doesn’t hurt the album enough to knock it down from a 10. All the non-filler tracks are timeless classics in my opinion. I still listen to Long Kiss Goodnight almost every single day. Always puts me in a very motivated mood. Like I’m ready to take on the world (in a positive way). Biggie on a RZA beat during RZA’s domination of hip hop production? Yes f---ing please. Legendary song. Aside from just this song though, I listen to biggie all the time. He’s the only artist I truly and unabashedly stan over. Goat. For the sake of transparency, this album and ready to die were the soundtracks to my high school years back when I was smoking blunts all day every day chasing tail for the first time as a young man. So my rating is very biased. f--- it. Blood rushing, concussions, ain't nothing Catch cases, come out fronting Smoking something Sipping White Russians, b---- in the Benz bumping I laced it with the basic 6 TVs, a system, knocking Mase s---, face it We hard to hit Guard your s---, 'fore I stick you, for your re-up Wipe the pee up Lick shots, woke your seed up Go in the ashtray, spark the weed up Long kiss
Nov 18, 2018 it’s a 10/10. it’s the best rap album ever made. big was 25 and mastered every popular style of rap at the moment. people are still flipping and interpolating these lyrics 20 years later. the way he frames the beef is like shakespeare. it’s perfect.
Nov 18, 2018 Biggie's flow was so godly that he can talk complete bs and I'd love it lol. His weakest songs are better than most artist's best s--- lol.
Nov 18, 2018 10/10 Most best music on these two discs than any other hip hop album easily not even debateable end of discussion top 5 album oat I mean I honestly don't know what else to say perfect incredible I've listened to this a million times and it's still great
Nov 18, 2018 I get f---ing mad that we were robbed of the guy who made this album dropping even more music, he literally had it all the flow the rhymes the wit to write fictional stories with irony When they set the f---ing apartment on fire and the dread kid ejects and Biggie shoots him and as they're on their way out and the fire alarms are going off they notice the cats in ranges double parked by a f---ing hydrant and Biggie and Arizona Ron from Tucson get out with the money themselves f---
Nov 18, 2018 Who the f--- wanna squeeze my desert e's make emcees freeze f--- 1000000/10 My nine flies Baptize Rap guys
