From their group Bad Meets Evil to signing Royce and Slaughterhouse to Shady Records, the two rappers have always maintained a great relationship. But not many may know how the two actually met. In Royce's new song "Tabernacle" off his upcoming album "Layers," Royce tells the story of one fateful day that involved him having a child, losing his grandmother and meeting Eminem. "I saw Kino talkin' to Marshall and then he introduced us / We talked about collaboratin' and how chasin' this rap thing is aggravatin' / But I'll get back, I got the family waitin' / I get to skatin'," raps Royce. According to Royce, who anointed the lyrics on Genius, he and his manager Kino knew who Eminem was and many Detroit rappers looked up to him. "Em was like, 'Yo, did you just say, I’m iller than standing in front of a gorilla holding a banana," wrote Royce. "We were talking and that’s pretty much how Bad Meets Evil came about. We ended up in the studio recording with each other." Royce told Complex that "Layers," which is out on April 15, will feature him telling his story. “My career is a true testament that everything is possible with hard work, dedication and determination,” he told Complex. “'Layers' is 100 percent Royce 5’9”. I love rapping and creating music with Marshall, Slaughterhouse, and Premier because they all inspire me creatively in different ways. I haven’t released a solo album in five years and I’ve been through a lot with my sobriety and different situations; and now its time for me to tell my story. Layers is the beginning chapters of me telling my story.”
