Half marathon done. The Snoop Dogg concert before the race was great. Left leg's killing me but I'm just glad it's over. Time to train for the Phoenix one in January now

I was sure I replied to you the other day but :dno:

Congrats on the half! =D Sounds like it was perfect temps for it, hope it wasn't too humid though. Great that your Mrs. participated, good way to encourage each other through. Did you stick together through it?

Hope your leg eases up soon and doesnt hinder your training for the next marathon. Love your medal =)

Koolo actually mentioned that server issues lost 8 hours worth of posts the other day so that might have been where your reply went :/

And thanks! It was great, barely beat my PR even though miles 9-13 were not great paces. My wife & I actually don't run together since we run at different paces, but it was great at the concert beforehand and of course celebrating at the end! I'm usually in the zone with headphones in when running anyway. :)

Also thanks - it's feeling a bit better now, I think I'm gonna take most of this week off before continuing training. Then after the Phoenix one I probably won't sign up for another race for a while.

Do you plan on doing a race at all? I know you just moved, where to? Do they have big races there?

Oh d---, that sucks for everyone.

Tbh, I dont blame you guys for doing your own thing, not sure how you and your missus are but I know that sometimes I can struggle even while walking trying to keep my stride up with my Mr. =p

Were many people playing at the concert before hand? Awesome that they had that to hype you up! Dont blame you for taking a week off tbh, sure your body will appreciate it and you've earned it anyway. Have you done any fulls?

Yeah, just moved to Belgium, I think I once saw a flyer for a 15k, but my aim is to participate in the Amsterdam half next October. It'll be my first race but a great excuse for a holiday up that way (plus a couple extra to practice the course). Had my first run today after a 3 week break, my god, it killed me. I only managed 1/3 of my usual distance and my time was pretty poor, so at least next Oct is a good while away to train.

Yeah, same here, I can't really jog/run and talk. The show was just one act, for an hour - Snoop Dogg. It was great, I haven't seen him perform in like 10 years. He actually handed his joint to a crowd member/marathon runner to let them smoke during the show haha.

Nah, I haven't done a full marathon and I don't think I ever will. I can't see halfs getting any easier for me (I'm only getting older) and a full marathon seems miserable.

Very cool! I went to Belgium on a 2 week trip, about 2 years ago. A friend used to live there, I really enjoyed it. The Amsterdam half sounds very cool. I haven't been there but I'd love to. I was also looking at the Dublin half marathon (maybe one day, seems pricey to fly there). That's great you're back running though! The first runs are always so discouraging. I always feel like it will never get easier but if I keep running 3-5 times a week it eventually gets way easier. :D

I've never tried running/jogging and talking but I dont I would be able to do it. I think I really need to focus on breathing technique as I feel like I breathe really heavily (embarrassing in gym setting, great for outdoors and letting walking know you are coming =p )

Great that you were able to get an hour of Snoop, that guy that toked, what a brave brave man lol. Dont know if I would be confident doing that before a marathon. That takes a lot of motivation and breathing technique.

Ah that's so true about the half/fulls. Although sometimes I check up on r/running and see 70+yr old making records for marathons, kind of gives a bit of motivation. To be that old and still able to run is probably a long term goal. I struggle at the age I am, let alone in another 50yrs!

Doing the Dublin half could be a great excuse to come over to Europe and do a few week ravel afterwards as a reward, kind of makes up for the cost, and if you and your missus pass by where I'm at, we (me and my Mr) could always be tour guides, do a beer marathon =p

They def get easier after a few, the week before I flew out I had a look at some of my runs and mins/km and found it really interesting to see how much I decreased in the time per km. Super encouraging and something to feel quite proud of.

I went to find this thread and realized it's been a long time since I saw it active, and I noticed I never saw this post... I killed the thread :ash:

I hope running and life in Belgium is going well! I started running consistently again this month, trying to get a lot of training in for my next half (January)

Still hoping to come to Ireland for a half next August as well. And a beer marathon sounds great :emoji_relaxed:
I am 8 months late on the reply but I use the Nike Run Club app. Mostly because I have used it for 5 years and i don't feel like switching.

Do you still run & use Map My Run? I used it a few times and I liked it.

Ah no, it seems Nori left and a lot of the old threads died, I had to stop running because I got wasted and injured my foot (pretty sure I broke a toe or two)

But so many congrats!! Is your missus going to join you in that run? How is the training going? I imagine with so many months till the event it's been pretty breazy training

Main app is runkeeper but it's a pain in the a---. not being able to chose a saved map and add to it is the worst developer decision

Oh no! That sounds awful. Did you go to the doctor, or are you just staying off the foot?

Thanks! She might sign up, she's been busy with law school so she hasn't been running. So far training is okay, running consistently but still way slower than I'd like... mostly cuz it's hot so I'm always on the treadmill watching the tv haha

    Hi runners

signed up for my 6th half marathon in November. First since 2019 and now I’m and old man so we’ll see how it goes. Definitely not setting any PR’s

Full marathon in October. Been training like h--- till I hyperextended my leg at football and put me out for most of the month. Started back again last Friday and feels like I’m starting all over again with my fitness. Mental how even a little bit time off can just reset you back months and months.

Was brutal but got the job done and loved every minute of it. Shame I had injury before it as would have smashed it otherwise but did it in 3.45 which I’m happy with as I didn’t think I even get to start it or do it in respectable time.
