Dec 4, 2015 What samples from certain songs made you a fan of the original artist/group that had their song sampled? Hip Hop has taught me so much about different genres of music and musicians who were around before my time through the amazing art of sampling. It's enabled me to become fans of artists who I may not have taken the time to explore properly myself if they hadn't been sampled by my favourite Hip Hop artists. Here are some of mine: Song with sample Original Song with sample Original I have many more and I may share them later. What are your favourites? Share yours by including the more recent song with the sample followed by the original artists/groups song.
Dec 4, 2015 Here are few more of mine. Song with sample Original Song with sample Original Song with sample Original I was already a fan of the Jackson 5 but this made me search for more of their deeper cuts.
Dec 4, 2015 Completely Off topic but @PoshP you heard this? I used to jam this back when I was a lil kid. The nostalgia tho.
Dec 4, 2015 It seems very familiar. I'm sure my mother would probably know it very well. It's a beautiful song.
Dec 4, 2015 I've just realised that the girl in the video is Katy Perry. I don't know how I didn't pick up on that before. I know they were dating in real life around that time too.
Dec 5, 2015 Nujabes' Feather sampled Yusef Lateef which made me listen to his album Eastern Sounds. Charles Hamilton's Come Back to You sampled The Isley Brothers. Didn't know about it until @Griff posted the original of the song in another thread. It was only then that I joined the dots between songs. After that happened I went to listen to their Go For Your Guns album and was blown away.
Dec 5, 2015 I've got another one that @Ordinary Joel just reminded me of. This MF DOOM song introduced me to Ronnie Laws, but later on I discovered that two other rappers had also used the same sample: Wale and Charles Hamilton. I guess this shows how amazing "Friends and Strangers" by Ronnie Laws is. I'll put the three modern songs with the sample first followed by the original by Ronnie Laws: Songs with sample Original All three versions are amazing and I don't even know which one I like the most.
Dec 5, 2015 I love this song. Tupac introduced me to the Five Stairsteps. I didn't know Bibby covered it too. Thanks for sharing.
