I know I posted both NLE Choppa and Roddy recently but d--- what a song. The first 2 superstars of the decade connect on what could have easily been a run-of-the-mill type affair but instead both bring their A game. Hope this makes it to NLE's debut album.

I don't think I've ever heard a Bishop Nehru song before this, which popped up on my YouTube feed yesterday. I know of Nehru - who previously put out an entire album alongside the legendary DOOM (I havent listened to that either), but besides that, he was just one of those names that had fallen by the wayside. It seems like I may have been missing out. A DJ Premier instrumental is the backdrop to Nehru's inner-monologue; a three-way debate between 'me, myself and I'. Count me intrigued.

Fivio Foreign has been teasing his tentatively titled 'B.I.B.L.E.' album, meant to drop sometime in April, for some time now. Blxky in a Box - a scathing diss aimed at 22Gz (i think?), is the best of the singles he's dropped so far (although Wetty which dropped last week is up there too). Fivio hasn't clicked for me like Pop Smoke, 22 Gz, Sheff G, etc have just yet, but backed by an exceptionally ominous sounding AXL beat, and flanked by fellow Brooklynites Jay Dee and Dee Savv (no relation), Fivie sounds like he's beginning to find his sweet spot.

The immaculate opener to A Written Testimony, a testament to the legend of Jay Electronica, with a verse so loaded with references as disparate as Black Panther to Islamic lore to the legend of Hov himself (who's appearance on this - much like the rest of this album - is just... astounding). A song that weaves its way through the Magnolia Projects to the streets of NY to the Louvre. Black excellence on wax.

Alc's ominous slow-burn sounds like you're in the water while the sharks circle. To make matters worse you've got Conway and Q snarling threats at you like only they how. You have no idea how its going to end but eitherway it ain't gonna be pretty.

TBT. As one of the foremost economists of the 2008 financial crisis, the world could use some wisdom from Professor Snow right now (side note: the new tape/album is dope). The Recession is a downright classic, My President the triumphant closer celebrating the inauguration of Barack Obama and Jeezy's garish taste in Lambo colors (oh yeah, theres also a really good Nas feature too). The more things change the more they stay the same.

One of the best surprises from last year was how well the Dreamville album turned out. Instead of focusing inwards - as Cole albums often tend to - the 'Ville team spreads its wings, and it works. There's plenty of highlights - including what might be Cole's solo opus - but this one always stuck out to me.

DAY 50: TDE Week Day 1

50 days! I'm surprised I've kept this going as long as I have. Its become part of my morning ritual. Wake up, grab a coffee, post whatever I'm listening to before I spend the next 10 hours in an Excel/Zoom coma. But time to switch up a bit. Somehow I found myself delving back into the TDE roster's output recently, starting off with Kendrick's 2017 d---. Its been ages since I've listened to this and it has aged like fine wine. Lust has been sticking out to me on recent listens - I don't think I appreciated it as much before - its such a weirdly brilliant, typically Kendrick song that is so cleverly structured and written, catchy and still seamlessly ties into the album's overarching theme.

Day 51: TDE Week Day 2

Blank Face is a sprawling west-coast gangsta thesis; theres features from E-40, Tha Dogg Pound, rich, funky instrumentals, guns, b------s, g--- signs galore. There's Q, chest thumping bravado juxtaposed with prayers to the lord. It only make sense that the spirit of Pac makes its way onto the tracklist in the form of Str8 Ballin, where Q stakes a step back to soak it all in - rags to riches. Picture him rollin now.

Day 52: TDE Week Day 3

"feel like this is my moment, feel its time for change"

It had been four years since Jay Rock had first taken us on a tour through his home. Things had changed in the TDE camp since; Kendrick was on top of the world and Q was following in his footsteps. Ab-Soul had dropped a masterpiece. Was Rock still the Top Dawg around town? Over an instrumental that makes you feel like you're CJ cruising down the streets of Los Santos, Rock raps like his life depends on it, welcoming you back into his world of gangbangin, b------s and smoke, all the while death lurking around the corner.
