Mar 19, 2020 Day 32 As if this song wasn't depressing enough....Arguably the two most promising stars of the last 2 years. We're still reeling from Juice's death. And not since I first discovered Future have I truly felt the pain in another artists music like Melly, who still awaits trial for double-homicide. Once in a lifetime, generational talents. Man. These two were meant to be at the top right now. We’re lucky to have this.
Mar 20, 2020 Day 33 Roddy Rich's debut album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial propelled him to become one of the biggest names in the game. Its a great album - no question but Roddy's best song (so far) can be found on his 2018 EP Feed the Streets II. Whether that is Die Young or Every Season is debatable, but I find myself returning to this more.
Mar 21, 2020 Day 34 "God bless the dead and let Biggie possess the pencil lead" The Slaughterhouse dudes do their thing (god Joell Ortiz is awful though lol), but over a throwback boom bap drum loop threaded through with a funeral organ melody that sounds like something Shady/G Unit would diss Ja Rule over, Em sheds the pop-star//Rap-God skin, as he still does ever so rarely and lets loose with one of those verses that used to come to him so naturally. That genuine, controlled, "rage I release on the page" Shady that reminds you why - even now, after 15 years of disappointments, he's still one of the best to ever do it.
Mar 22, 2020 Day 35 NLE Choppa popped seemingly out of nowhere in early 2019 with Shotta Flow, drawling a barrage of threats over a filthy distorted bass and haphazard piano key loop that is so simple but so loaded with high-octane in-your-face energy that its strength alone has propelled him to the heights of major-release guest lists and Spotify playlists over the course of the last 12 months. With a big co-sign from Birdman, a series of equally energetic (but maybe not as effective) singles and, an EP and a larger-than-life Louisianan/Tennessean presence, this is only the beginning. I'm curious to see what his debut album, supposedly dropping any day now, brings.
Mar 22, 2020 Was thinking about this recently. How do you rate Funeral vs. C5 now that its had some time to settle? I'm also still loving Funeral but I think C5 might still be >>
Mar 22, 2020 I would have to compare tracks, review songs or something to answer in depth, but if I don't think too much about it I may actually prefer The Funeral! Sounds fresher overrall. Wayne's rapping on Mahogany is absolutely mind-blowing, he's having fun and testing flows everywhere on the album, his delivery is constantly grabbing your attention... Used 2 might still be my favorite song overrall though
Mar 22, 2020 also maybe the mixtapish vibe of the funeral has always fit wayne better, if that makes sense. his whole prime is made of spontaneous highlights, strikes of pure genius, not polished masterpieces
Mar 23, 2020 Day 36 Virginia native $ilkmony has a thing for weird album (and song) titles. Africa is the first single of his sophomore effort released in 2019, entitled: Get the f--- Off My d-ck: There's Not Enough Room For All You Motha Fuckas To Be On It Like This (which features a few gems like 'My d-ck Too Small' and 'The Day Waffle House Broke My Heart'). $ilk switches from hilarious and self-deprecating to deadly serious and downright scary writing, curling in and around a lo-fi-ish, tribal sounding haze of a beat, switching his flows however he seems to feel at the start of the bar. Fans of the chaotic, in-your-face styles of JPEGMAFIA, absolutely check this guy out.
Mar 23, 2020 very good point, its kinda like album Weezy vs. mixtape Weezy. And you're right about C5 being too polished in some parts but i think it feels more cohesive, whereas Funeral loses a bit of steam and in the second half imo. Still both amazing projects and feels like he's just getting started on his 3rd (or is it 4th?) wave now. crazy.
Mar 24, 2020 Day 37 Doggystyleeee sounds like he came up listening to nothing but Ruthless and Death Row on repeat. If you're looking for that old school G-Funk/West Coast feel, look no further, this is it.
Mar 24, 2020 You should be able to by creating an iframe. Edit: Not sure the html doesn't seem to work. And this thread is a great idea/ has some good s--- on here.
Mar 25, 2020 Day 38 It is one of the greatest travesties in hip hop history that this opus never made it on to any of Sosa's official albums or even mixtapes. The gothic war-chant, the creeping violin threaded through the background would have slotted perfectly onto BFTD2. But hey who knows what kind of chaos a project with this and Faneto would been.
Mar 26, 2020 Day 39 Is Detroit at the peak of its relevance in hip hop right now? I think it might be. I've always liked Tee Grizzley, even though none of his full-length projects have clicked for me. But he does have a very strong catalog of singles and loosies that he's dropped over the past 4-odd years. This is another one - two Detroit generations connect over what I'm pretty sure is yet another monstrous piano driven Helluva beat (the man is unstoppable). Would love to hear these 2 connect more often.
