Apr 30, 2020Day 72
All this old school west-coast talk has me going back to revisit some of the old classics, shoutout @The Shape . This one is a lot lesser known, off the legendary D.O.C.'s third album, the incredibly forgotten Deuce, which dropped back in 2003 (if you havent heard it check it out now). D.O.C. barely raps on the album at all, given the effects of the devastating car crash that took his voice - but his Houston protege 6Two (who also made a couple of appearnaces on Dre's 2001) more than competently carries the B*** of most of the album. On album highlight The s--- he teams up with N.W.A. (sans Dre but plus Snoop), for a west coast throwback of epic proportions.

Day 63
Thanks to @Lil Squeed I was introduced to RMR through his song and video for RASCAL (please watch this first if you havent already), which was so bizarre I initially wrote him off as a joke. But then RMR returned with a sequel - DEALER - which is even better, and where RMR showcases his angelic voice over a country/trap hybrid instrumental, lamenting his troubles with addiction and in the process, officially announces his arrival as hip hop's new MF DOOM meets Lil Nas X meets Future. This is a genuinely beautiful song and I am fascinated to see where he goes next.Chrollo, Michael Myers, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this. -

Day 59
There is so much packed into the 4-minute opener of Biggie's monumental debut album its overwhelming. Its all juxtaposed. The instrumental sounds like angels playing the harp amongst the heavenly clouds, but there's an ominous curb-stomping theme in the back. Biggie reminisces about the good ol days then turns the page to 93 where things just aint so pretty anymore. Its either the rap game or the crack game. Either you're slingin crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot. But when it comes down to it Biggie realises maybe there hasn't been that much change after all. Its always been hard being young from the slums. Things done changed but he's still motherfuckin stressed.Ordinary Joel, Zeugma, BIGFOOT and 1 other person like this. - Jul 21, 2025

Day 44:
The immaculate opener to A Written Testimony, a testament to the legend of Jay Electronica, with a verse so loaded with references as disparate as Black Panther to Islamic lore to the legend of Hov himself (who's appearance on this - much like the rest of this album - is just... astounding). A song that weaves its way through the Magnolia Projects to the streets of NY to the Louvre. Black excellence on wax.Michael Myers, Xmipod, Ordinary Joel and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

I know I posted both NLE Choppa and Roddy recently but d--- what a song. The first 2 superstars of the decade connect on what could have easily been a run-of-the-mill type affair but instead both bring their A game. Hope this makes it to NLE's debut album.Xmipod, Ordinary Joel, Chrollo and 1 other person like this.(This ad goes away when signing up) -

Day 39
Is Detroit at the peak of its relevance in hip hop right now? I think it might be. I've always liked Tee Grizzley, even though none of his full-length projects have clicked for me. But he does have a very strong catalog of singles and loosies that he's dropped over the past 4-odd years. This is another one - two Detroit generations connect over what I'm pretty sure is yet another monstrous piano driven Helluva beat (the man is unstoppable). Would love to hear these 2 connect more often.Xmipod, Ordinary Joel, Chrollo and 1 other person like this. -

As if this song wasn't depressing enough....Arguably the two most promising stars of the last 2 years. We're still reeling from Juice's death. And not since I first discovered Future have I truly felt the pain in another artists music like Melly, who still awaits trial for double-homicide. Once in a lifetime, generational talents. Man. These two were meant to be at the top right now. We’re lucky to have this.Lil Squeed, Fire Squad, Chrollo and 1 other person like this. -

Day 31
In a double-stacked (side note, I wonder if this will become a trend...) album stuffed full of intergalactic instrumentals from Mars, Lil Durk, DY and KidWon3r hop into the spaceship and provide a brief 2:15 reprieve, bringing Uzi down to earth. Or 6 feet below it. A haunting funeral dirge of an instrumental is the playground for 'no auto' Durk and Uzi to trade cut-throat bars. Oh you scared huh? Oh you p----? Imagining a Lil Uzi the same size as Dave East, I'd say... yeah, i'm pretty d--- scared.Chrollo, Ricky, Zeugma and 1 other person like this. -

Day 23
What if Slim Charles from the Wire was a rapper? ShooterGang Kony has had a meteoric rise leading up to his latest album Red Paint Reverend that dropped a few weeks ago. The whole album is great, in a vein similar to what you might expect from Mozzy, but this song is the immediate standout.Last edited: Mar 10, 2020DJW, Xmipod, Ricky and 1 other person like this. -
