The Dopplegangaz are from NY but the instrumental of Holla x2, off their second highly acclaimed album Peace Kehd, sounds like it was lifted out of LA (@icecube you might like this one) as Matta ov Fact and EP health food trade bars a la dead prez while they rob a gas station. Turn this one up.

I never got into Trippie Redd. I've never really enjoyed any of his albums and find most of his music boring. Always thought his screeching sounds like an Uzi impression gone wrong. BUT, there are a (growing) handful of Trippie Redd songs I really enjoy. Can You Rap Like Me? is one of the most fascinating entries in his catalog where Trippie completely drops his typical spaced out trappy wailing and suddenly becomes Joey Bada$$ v 2.0: a throwback boom-bap beat and a razor-sharp, syllable crunching flow where Trippie takes the opportunity to stake his claim, even (I think?) throwing a few veiled shots Tekashi's way. The kid can rap. I'd love to hear him do it more often.

All this old school west-coast talk has me going back to revisit some of the old classics, shoutout @The Shape . This one is a lot lesser known, off the legendary D.O.C.'s third album, the incredibly forgotten Deuce, which dropped back in 2003 (if you havent heard it check it out now). D.O.C. barely raps on the album at all, given the effects of the devastating car crash that took his voice - but his Houston protege 6Two (who also made a couple of appearnaces on Dre's 2001) more than competently carries the bulk of most of the album. On album highlight The s--- he teams up with N.W.A. (sans Dre but plus Snoop), for a west coast throwback of epic proportions.

Jackboy is Kodak Blacks' counsin and Sniper g--- signee who just dropped his debut self-titled mixtape last week. The South Fl. similarities between him and Kodak are clear but Jackboy is a lot more willing to experiment with different flows and inflections, rapping in short syllabic bursts almost like --- or Denzel and even channeling Carti at times. Consider me a fan.

Dripping in ATLien OutKastisms, EarthGang and JID team up for one of the highlights of their series of EPs dropped between 2017 and 18 (and which was featured in an episode of Atlanta).

Young Dolph tells it like it is. When he had over 100 shots sent his way and emerged unscathed in 2017, he calmly and collectedly made one of the greatest, coldest 50-Cent-ish retaliatory statements in rap history with the now legendary Bulletproof mixtape. But despite his immunity to the haters (and apparently, bullets), Dolph is quarantining along with the rest of us, glued to the news, musing on when he'll see sunshine again while his kids jump on the couch and he pays half-attention to the latest Drake memes.

Edit: I'm a dumbass. Its Carti x Nudy - Pissy Pamper.

Surely the greatest leaked song of all time

Mozzy links up with the Chi - Herbo and up-and-comer King Von (who is signed to Durk's OTF label) on his latest Beyond Bulletproof album, debating - in terrifying detail - the validity of what counts towards a body count.

How did this tape turn out to be so d--- good? I usually cringe whenever i see Chris Brown’s name but he’s on absolute top form throughout. This song in particular sounds like something that have been all over radio when he first came on the scene in the late 00’s. Thugger’s equally on point throughout although there’s a little less of him than I would have liked. It astounds me how he went from that peak in 2015 to a bit of a dip that seemed to suggest his career was slowing down, then suddenly in the last year or so straight back to the top of the game, somehow even more popular and prolific than before.
