May 19, 2019 1. The Drake beef had no negative consequences on Pusha's career lol what? The beef drake in the short term but not in the long run. 2. Makonnen's making the best career of his music right now. 3. Tyga made Rack City almost a decade ago and I'm not sure what Taste has to do with anything anyway because it features Offset? Re: your other post...Drake helped put Migos in the limelight briefly, yeah, but their debut album flopped regardless. They hit the mainstream on their own with Bad & Boujee/Culture. How did Drake put Nipsey or Kendrick on? lol
May 19, 2019 Yup, he tapped into the consciousness of an entire generation for over a decade. I do agree that it's debatable whether his music crosses that archetype we quantify as classic, it's hard to deny the records he's shattered and how he continued in a way Eminem's ability to push Rap into a giant audience--albeit in a dissimilar way & to a completely divergent collective. Retrospect will be very interesting where we stand on his status in the next couple years. Whether he slows down, or likely moved back into entertainment will likely have an effect on it. To me at least, IYRTITL/Take Care/NWTS all are great albums that I still fondly revisit.
May 19, 2019 1. I might have been slightly wrong on that, but I'm still standing by it. 2. You know I didn't say Makonnen's music wasn't s--- right? Mainstream wise, he's nigh irrelevant. 3. Tyga & Drake were beefing around 2015, the same year Gold Album dropped, which went triple cardboard. Which is a shame because that album wasn't half bad. Note that I say maybe on Kendrick being put on by Drake. If anything, it could've been by Big Sean. Nipsey was basically unknown, at least in my region before Drake got on Killer. Won't comment on Migos.
May 19, 2019 If you’re judging by discography, no. If you’re looking at impact, yes. Drake may not have the discography of Kendrick but his music is unavoidable. It’s cemented its place in time. When people look back at hip-hop in the early 2000s they think of “i need a girl pt. 2” or “In Da Club.” That’s how drake’s music will be remembered — as a cornerstone of an era. You could argue that makes him more so a legend than a great; I wouldn’t argue with that either.
May 19, 2019 lol are you f---ing joking? Kendrick’s GKMC album was his only album people rank a 9-10. Drake has multiple classic albums. He has classic features. Not a single Kendrick project is as good as NWTS, IYRTITL and probably even take care. I would even argue views, but I could see how some people don’t consider that album a classic. Even though it is. People will always remember Drakes classic singles and will be played decades from now. His Back to Back diss track will always be remembered as a classic diss track. He also buried Pusha T. I think you’re really downplaying drakes status. What’s Kendrick going to be known for? One good album? And other just ok projects.
May 19, 2019 Makonnen doesn't have the mainstream presence he had when Tuesday Remix dropped obviously, but he's got an extremely loyal fanbase and I doubt he would be making music as good as Spendin' and Sunlight on Your Skin if he'd stayed in the OVO sweatshop. Same with the weeknd for that matter. Meanwhile PND is handing over hits to drake. Makonnen is doing exactly what he wants to be doing and I don't think he would be if he was still on OVO. I still don't see what that Drake/Tyga beef has to do with anything. The gold album flopped because he marketed it terribly and no one had cared about his music since rack city at that point. Drake is an undeniable legend in hip-hop, and you don't need to give him false credit for other people's careers to solidify that legacy. I think crediting anyone other than Nipsey himself for his career is downright disrespectful honestly. I dunno if anyone grinded harder than that dude to get where he was (and this isn't to deny that a Drake feature is almost always gonna give someone a little boost, but you can't credit an artist's entire career to a Drake feature). And really the Pusha/Drake beef HELPED Pusha's career if anything. Adidon had people who'd never heard a clipse song in their life checking out Daytona. Bottom line is this: I love Drake as an artist when he's at his best. I really do. But I don't like to see people giving him credit for things he shouldn't be given credit for.
May 20, 2019 A lot lol. Daytona gets play on the regular. On this day on 20th of May 2019, imagine pressing play on any of drakes last 3 albums . Ain't no one still listening to that rubbish, surely
