Recovery wasn't highly praised. It did get some high praise, sure. MMLP2 more so...

But, with critics... Recovery got more YES than Revival did, sure, but still plenty mixed. 63/100 on Metacritic, barely positive. And reaction from many fans was also 'ehh' too. I think it's all about sales. Recovery had big long term sales and that's what they care about, whereas Revival had a flop 1st week and abysmal following weeks, and was trashed very badly, worse than Relapse even I'd say.

So yeah it's a combination, but Recovery wasn't super praised. The main thing was the sales.

But he's never not proven that to me. There's brilliant rapping and songs in every era.

I want an amazing album. Not just some amazing songs.

Yea but recovery was still praised by the mainstream as his "real comeback" after relapse was panned (and won a grammy). Not afraid and LTWYL also did huge f---ing numbers/chart position compared to the revival singles. But the point is revival is his worst reviewed, lowest selling, least buzzworthy album he's released in his entire career so if this doesn't make him switch things up, nothing will.
