Feb 19, 2016 This has kind of been a hot topic lately, just was wondering the boards thoughts. For anyone who doesn't live in the United States or know what selective service is, men from 18-25 years old are required by law to register with selective service so in case a crisis happens and the United States needs soldiers, they will have men to draft to go fight. The last time the draft was used was during the Vietnam War in the 60's. More recently though, all combat positions in the military have been opened to females. This prompted this discussion of whether women should be required to register with selective service like men are. Tell me your thoughts.
Feb 19, 2016 One of the disadvantages of being a man is being the first to be put on the front lines. That to me is completely fair. We protect the women and children, and fight so they don't have to. Women should never ever be drafted. They should be protected from war and violence, not thrown into it. Besides, it's front line combat. If Chad Warden just got shot I don't expect a woman to be able to drag me to safety. It's unrealistic.
Feb 19, 2016 Eh, Idk. I don't think so. Just doesn't make much sense. But if there is some girl that is brolic af and wants to fight then sure but ALL women being in the draft, nah
Feb 19, 2016 No. Men are physically stronger than women overall, it's science. Yes, there are some women who are stronger than men, and there are smaller weaker men, but overall men have more muscle mass. I know everyone wants to be equal but we have differences. If they want to sign up voluntarily and can pass the tests, then by all means do it, but I can never see it being mandatory. If I can't wear yoga pants without getting harassed then they can't s---t people in other countries.
Feb 19, 2016 Well, to be fair, if a women is in combat with you, she's there for a reason lol. That probably means she's just as fit as you are. Even peopled drafted have to go through extensive training.
Feb 19, 2016 I've seen women get pushed through fire department training for diversity purposes. Who says it wouldn't happen in the military? For a woman to drag my six foot two, hundred and ninty pound a--- around in tactical gear..she would have to be quite the woman. I'd imagine there's outliers that exist, very strong women...but it's rare.
Feb 21, 2016 combat is for men and the women who are up to the task you could however have selective service for women as support staff, cooks, drivers, office staff etc etc
Feb 21, 2016 if we were to go this route for women it should be applied the same for men, not all men are war ready or should be fighting
Feb 21, 2016 but there are already lots of exemptions for the draft. Health problems and essential skills aside, in a national crisis men need to step up to the plate
Feb 21, 2016 and apparently one of those exemptions is gender, which makes no sense Why does it only have to be men?
Feb 21, 2016 ok @Cyreides your country is in peril, the women and children are frail af...but vegetarians like yourself would be excluded from the draft.
Feb 21, 2016 just so we're clear: your logic is that not all women are combat ready, so they should be exempt by default. you all but agree the same is true for men, yet, you think still all of them should be forced into combat anyways. lmao
Feb 21, 2016 logic is men have always risen to the task of defending their country (and women and children) from invaders, besides of course Syrian men this go around women aren't strong enough to carry the 130lb of pack and gun infantry have to carry now weak men will be put in offices and driving as they always have. They didnt put 125 lb guys out there in the jungle in Vietnam
