Sep 23, 2018 I first heard of him from the "Just Don't Give A f---" ads that used to be in The Source, Blaze, etc. I thought he looked corny in those ads. Then the "My Name Is" video dropped and it became an MTV Buzz Clip which meant that they were going to play it a lot. I copped SSLP first week and I didn't know what to make of it at first. Being from Queens NYC, my concept of Hip Hop at that time was Mobb Deep, CNN, Nas, Lost Boyz and of course Biggie, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, etc. Em was the first time I heard somebody rapping about mushrooms and cursing out his mother and all sorts of weird s---. It took me a minute to get used to it. Eventually I did grow to enjoy the album.
Sep 23, 2018 Around 2002 or 2003 maybe, back when I was 6 or 7 years old. It was life before the internet, I was sitting at my Grandma's and the music channel was on (I don't remember which, but I'm sure it most probably was one of the local middle eastern channels) Cleaning Out My Closet came on and that was the first time. Then in the following years (2004-2005-2006), especially during summer, I'd sit all day and watch TV & put the music channel on (since I still had no PC nor internet yet) and I'd start seeing Eminem music videos on more frequent (such as When I'm Gone, Mosh, Like Toy Soldiers, You Don't Know and even some D12 music vids etc) Also that just goes to show you the big impact made and the boundaries Eminem's music broke back in the day for someone like myself from a tiny country (Bahrain) which is also an actual island in the middle east, to be able to hear of him and know who he is before I had any internet in my life. Years later, I'm one of his biggest supporters as I'm sitting here typing this. It's crazy. Life is crazy. P.S Of course, when the internet was finally available in our household, I started exploring his music more and more etc. (This story will forever hold significance to me and my life. It has been a life changing experience. It's almost like fate had something to do with this from the very beginning.)
