    Hi guys,

I wanted to create a thread to spread awareness of Social Anxiety which actually affects 1 in 10 people.

If you feel you suffer with this disorder, please share your thoughts, coping mechanisms etc.

I suffer with a Social Anxiety Disorder and my therapy consists of performing (Djing). I love my job but I also feel that it gives me an opportunity to share my personality under a spotlight for 4 - 5 hours, it's the only chance I really get in life to express myself confidently. It seems strange that a Social Anxiety sufferer would actually cope in a Club setting as a DJ, but surprisingly I feel like I can be myself becuase I'm given the opportunity to express my passion to a crowd of people and it gives me the feeling of being accepted. I've read stories about performers (Comedians, Artists, DJs) suffering with an Anxiety Disorder and how they share similar views to myself.

So if you do suffer with social Anxiety, give yourself a spotlight and a platform to share your personality.

Open format most of time at my Saturday residency, but I do like to experiment mashups & mixes (House, Hip Hop/throwbacks, Moombahton) through channels like Mixcloud

I can understand how you feel

Do you think that the reason why you find it hard to socialise is that you've built up an expectation that you won't be in that certain place for that long so you feel that its hard to connect with people?

This is pretty much what I came in here to post and I'm not joking in the slightest. That's 100% what I do.

i actually have a minor fear that participating in Australian culture of charging darts and sinking mangoes on a regular basis will cause me to develop some kind of anxiety later in life. I know that alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking can f--- around with anxiety, just not sure to what extent.

yeah im always f----- after a night of a few roundies. the next day its like "nah im not prepared to speak to anyone for a couple hours"
but yeah what you said is very true. most people don't realise or are to ignorant to bother researching what they put in their bodies. So they do this stuff 3 days in a row every weekend and after a year, theres all kinds of toxic chemical build ups in there body and a range of chemical imbalances in the brain. causing all kinds of mood swings.

yeah ciggies are weird, it's a bit hard to explain. smoking a cigerette can immediately ease your anxiousness. But it gets all fucky, because tobaccos addictive as s---, it passively makes you slightly more anxious when you don't have them. This builds up over time too. IMO one of the hardest parts of quitting ciggies is the onset of anxiety. any heavy smokers quitting cold turkey are likely to get "withdrawal" symptoms ranging from irritability, cold sweats, heart palpitations, trouble sleeping etc. most of those "withdrawal" sympptoms are symptoms of anxiety too.

Yeh the ciggie s----s weird. Tbh I've never really associated them with stress, like I've never been stressed had one and felt any better. I just genuinely like them with a drink alcoholic or not. But i do think the people who have em when anxious - the dependence on them kinda cancels that out overall
