May 1, 2017 bro i don't like beiber or his music tbh. felt this way since 2009 and this is my first time speaking out about it. I used to have f--s in year 11 like "lol u like music, heres a meme shi--ing on beiber" and i would always just be like "ok". Like grown f---ing men talking about this beiber dude like i'm supposed to have some kind of perma-hate for him and s---, was always weird to me. But nowadays, Justin is a GOAT. i saw his banter in Australia, told the camera crew to puck off in a classic aussie reference, in classic aussie spirit. The news crew f----- themselves up by trying to portray him as a menace, when in reality he's a true aussie battla and worthy of immigration.
May 2, 2017 See this is a different tone. Now you say 'without agreeing'.. different than saying 'u listen to music I dont like so u have garbage taste'.
May 2, 2017 as played out as the "well that's just my opinion" thing is it doesn't make it untrue I mean music isn't some empirical science that we can measure in some statistical way, it's just what sounds good to us. For example most of us here would rather listen to babies being burned alive than sit through some deathcore or crunkcore album but those people might feel the same about rap and pop
May 2, 2017 Everyone except the die hard critics know this. It kind of kills discussion sometimes but at the end of the day you cant 'choose' what music you think sounds good to you.
May 2, 2017 true. but when it comes to the arguing the merit of a work its a groanworthy copout. it's lame to use it when already in the midst of an argument/debate about of the quality of an album. it's become this faggy little safety shield. like ofc people'll have different tastes & there's no factual value marker for quality. the value marker is instead gonna be the most valid argument(s) that can be made for the works quality -- when its strong enough & holds enough weight it can even be indisputable despite not being an empirical fact. gotta explore & interpret work somehow.
May 2, 2017 problem is "most valid argument(s)" sort of falls apart given the lack of a value marker for quality, as you say lol and what one considers a valid argument, another could and would think is bs, or simply refuse to accept because they miss the entire notion of music not having some sort of mark of quality inherently, so they view it as simply wrong because their tastes don't align with that view. so those arguments drag out until one person is either battered into submission or some1 uses the "copout" it's just my opinion
