Jul 2, 2017 Neither Encore or MMLP2 are cohesive. Encore sounds like two completely different projects mashed together and MMLP2 is mostly a collection of songs.

Jul 3, 2017 I'd argue the overall focus of mmlp2 was where he was at in life in that moment in time. Like mmlp. Only difference being 2 isn't nearly as good as 1 lol. You have songs that are literally continuations of songs from mmlp 1, him really coming to terms that it wasn't all his mom's fault and having an absent father really did affect him as a kid. As far as an atmosphere I agree to an extent. He wanted a retro sounding album but new sounding at the same time, to me the atmosphere he was going for didn't match the content of the album and it kinda stuck out. I like mmlp2, I don't kid myself and tell myself it's a classic or anything, I still enjoy it from time to time and the album has several really good songs that still get play. I think the name fit the album, it just didn't fit the legacy of the and execution of the first one.

Jul 3, 2017 MMLP2 really annoys me because of the potential it had - like wtf was up with his song choice? STIW? Survival? He recorded hundreds of songs and probably left great songs out because he ‘felt they didn’t fit in’; because STIW is so MMLP-esque(?).. The bonus tracks are better than half of the ones on the actual album. If he cut down the tracklist down to a shorter, more cohesive one, I think people would be taking very differently about it... Jul 3, 2017 MMLP2 had really high moments like Bad Guy and Headlights, especially Headlights because I thought he finally matured with his content and he'll show more wisdom now that he's older, but he just ruined it all later on after that album with the r---, killing, choking lines

Jul 3, 2017 Relapse a "Timeless classic".... Although I didn't like Relapse, I agree that MMLP2 had no focus. If you think about it, all of his previous albums had a distinct sound or some kind of theme but MMLP2 is just all over the place. Like he took a bunch of random songs and put them together. The album felt forced, It really didn't feel inspired, more like "What should i write about now". The funny thing is I actually really liked the album when it first came out and ranked it 4th and even 3rd place. But it didn't take too long before i got completely bored of it. That album has the worst replay value. Haven't listened to it since. Would rank it his worst album right after Relapse.
