Sep 3, 2017 'Classic' isn't an objectively defined term in this context. There's no official rule determining what a 'classic' is. To me, a classic is a song or album that has a certain type of cultural impact. Quality comes into it perhaps, but at a very slight level.
Sep 3, 2017 Imo the only albums I would consider classics are MMLP and TES. One could make an argument about SSLP too. Anyone calling anything else a classic shouldn't even be allowed to voice their opinions.
Sep 3, 2017 Recovery is objectively not a classic If u really think this then your opinion on music is trash and shouldn't matter
Sep 3, 2017 Not Afraid was released as a single, also the FIRST single. And also it was a DOPE commercial success. GTC is not a song to be released as a single imo. This influecences on impact i think
Sep 3, 2017 That is a solid point. But by those standards, The Eminem Show is, for obvious reasons, a classic
Sep 3, 2017 Yeah, but given how it's a subjective thing it's really more about it feeling like a classic to you. TES doesn't quite feel like a classic to me, but it's more than just a non-classic, to be fair.
Sep 3, 2017 Doesn't feel like a classic to me. More of a semi-classic album. MMLP strikes me as more of a 'for the ages' album than TES.
Sep 3, 2017 Fair enough man, it’s all boils down to opinion/personal preference Of course the term classic is subjective — I’ve just never seen anyone consider TES anything other than a classic. It’s perfect to me, and is widely accepted as one of the best rap albums of all time
Sep 3, 2017 It's weird how he always seems to leave out great songs. Songs that could have easily replaced bad ones on his albums. It happened for Encore, Relapse (Refill), MMLP2... Really makes you wonder how many great tracks didn't make the cut.
Sep 3, 2017 Recovery still sounds listenable, I listened to it for 10 times in the past 6 months and I still listened to the entire album throughout but I don't know if I would call it a classic there are supposedly bad and "corny punchlines"
Sep 3, 2017 Idk I personally feel the slurred rapping adds to it. It's like if someone like Kanye was slurring in a song, people would probably say it's genius lol. I think it really supports what he's conveying in the song
Sep 3, 2017 Agreed. Listened to it all the way through the other day for the first time in a while & I forgot just how great it was I really hope this is a problem that he’s addressed for his next album, and that’s why he’s taking so long. The quality is there. No filler tracks please
Sep 3, 2017 Like seriously, how could he think songs like f---in "Big Weenie" were better than "We As Americans" and "Love You More" lol
Sep 3, 2017 Dude was drugged out of his mind back then. He probably thought that song was "so funny".
