Nov 14, 2017its a close battle. I usually pick Em because MMLP was my first experience with Rap music. But I also would say that Jay has alot going for him. I personally would take Eminem's "classics" over Jay's tho.
ALTHOUGH YALL SLEEP ON VOL. 3 WHICH IS AN AMAZING ALBUM.

Well first of all sales doesn't = rating.
And no, I don't think Eminem is overrated.
Just as Rakim once said - if Eminem was black - he'd be Ali. I believe he's UNDERRATED due to his skin colour. Because black rap fans and rappers see it as a barrier and annoyance, because of Eminem's popularity and seeing all the teenie bopper fans, he feels like pop and I believe they attribute that to him - mostly - being white and so disregard him more.
Jay-Z can't write a story or enact characters like "Stan". He can't create an entire musical piece and one of the most complete - skillfully written and yet biggest songs ever with "Lose Yourself", he can't express emotion like "The Way I Am"
So if Em was black... MMLP is just an average album? Lol. That argument is so r-----ed. Nobody is listening to Eminem's skin colour. He is who he is because of how he puts words together and the content he has created. "Stan" is still "Stan" whether Em has black or white skin. It's remarkable.CSA, Tal and Hard Klyntar like this. -

Honestly, this thread was a bad idea. This thread is going to be for dickeaters to justify their love for Em. If we are being serious, Jay-z has a better rap legacy and arguably a better music legacy than Eminem. It's as simple as this, in rap, who does the culture/genre look to more, Hov or Slim? -

JAY-Z
JAY-Z's flow > Eminem's flow
JAY-Z's discography > Eminem's discography
JAY-Z's consistency > Eminem's consistency
JAY-Z's subject matter > Eminem's subject matter
JAY-Z's impact/influence > Eminem's impact/influence
JAY-Z's delivery > Eminem's delivery
Eminem's storytelling > JAY-Z's storytelling though
Now time to break it down lyrically
JAY-Z's double-entendres > Eminem's double-entendres
Eminem's rhyme schemes > JAY-Z's rhyme schemes (very close, JAY-Z's rhyme schemes on RD were insane)
JAY-Z's wordplay = Eminem's wordplay
Eminem's technical ability > JAY-Z's technical ability (very close)
Overall, JAY-Z's the better rapper. You could make a case for Eminem lyrically on stuff like MMLP, but then I could counter it with some stuff on RD. You also have to remember that JAY-Z doesn't write anything down AND dumbed down his work for the mainstream. Hov was the first rapper to use quadruple-entendres while Eminem was the second. The difference is that Eminem fell off while JAY-Z stayed consistent. Lyrically, I would say it's about even, if not, slightly leaning towards Eminem. For storytelling, you could give it to Em. However, for every other aspect of rapping, Hov wins
"It goes Reggie, JAY-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me"
