Nov 27, 2017 But I mean lots of albums that are gonna be entered into the hip-hop canon as classics have dropped since then. lol
Nov 27, 2017 Butterfly, like I said in the OP, has too much controversy around it. I personally think it's an instant classic. Kendrick's best and most complex album. Recently, Charlemagne also revealed that he thinks the album is indeed incredible and ahead of it's time. But the impact wasn't as receptive as GKMC. GKMC put the entire game on watch. People tried to make their own versions of it and everything. Impact. Kendrick literally shot into Top 3 rapper because of this album. Even was being put into the GOAT conversation as well as being compared to Illmatic. INSTANTLY. I remember so many people who weren't even into rap telling me "HEY, you heard that Kendrick album?" I even put people who hated Kendrick onto him because of that album. Drake coming out saying it was the "last great concept album" , major praise from legends etc. It was just so much going on around this time man lmao. It was incredible. Feels dope even discussing it. Nobody has came out with anything this strong since then. The only other recent album that did this same thing was MBDTF. Which came out like, 2 years prior. Something like a moment in time. For everybody. I want a lot of artists to achieve this, but I'm genuinely taking out any bias and looking at this objectively. Who really has what it takes to ascend to this level? It's been 5 d--- years. It's time.
Nov 27, 2017 Can't believe there are still people who haven't accepted the fact that Yeezus is the greatest album oat in any genre
Nov 27, 2017 gkmc is his least complex album by far lol. That's not a knock on it, but TPAB, d---, and S80 all deal with more abstract and complicated concepts. GKMC is pretty straightforward, and that's not necessarily a bad thing...but I dunno why it's painted as this ultra-complex album.
