I enjoyed some moments where the author recapitulated the 2002-era Eminem and his perspective on popular culture. However, for a Revival review, there only seemed to be 2-3 paragraphs about Revival, which were intermixed with a heavily-opinionated Eminem 101 history lesson. The "review" was pretty bland, but it will definitely appeal to the Stans who don't like modern Eminem.

this is rly well written. i feel like u spent alot of time thinking this through, researching and discussing its various nuances with v smart ppl- its just too bad, as @TimmyT says, this is just one opinion, and doesnt hold any weight in the grand scheme of the universe

i should write a review maybe (s/o @Michael Myers) but.... what do u mean by this?

Swizz’s only way of describing what he thinks is good music is how “gorgeous” the melody is(I think it’s the only adjective he knows)

because eminem is a legacy artist whose new music has virtually no consequence when it comes to the genre, pop culture, or his own place in history. this isn't a straight review because it doesn't need to be, and works better as is.

I’m that case you should’ve labelled this as an article on eminem rather than an album review

    I honestly don’t care about

what he is now compared to his old self
He used to do this but now he does this...
    His legacy is this...
    People could see this as...
    His place in history is...

Why not tell me about how he kept this rhyme scheme going for too long...or maybe the way the bridge comes in on song X....or or how the drums on song X don’t reall fit the style of the beat

Oh I forgot you don’t know s--- about actual music. You can string words together but what you say is just complete utter bollocks.

lol. I didnt mean that as in "I know real music and you don't!!!"

I'm talking about how a song is created, what makes it, how every little sound was used to complement that song. All your reviews are just "where the artist stands" and talking a alot of s--- about "what things mean"

hmmmm this is interesting because a good deal of my work is extremely granular. i've written virtually zero music criticism this year that is centered on "what things mean." so..............you're wrong.

btw, like...who are you? i have literally never heard of you until this past week but it seems like you've been harboring years-long obsessions with me, swizz, etc? weird.

can you imagine clicking on a piece about a late-period eminem album and it being like “look, the drum programming in the third bar of this loop could be tweaked like thus to be more in line with the synths, which are reminiscent of this little-known kraftwerk demo, which was found by rick rubin’s assistant, cornelius, and emailed at 11:44 on July 2nd.”

I think mentioning Eminem career up to the point of Revival is important.

Because it is having a huge effect on the music he is delivering.

He has very little confidence in himself.
He keeps trying things that he used to do MMLP2 etc & has been doing the Pop/Rap anthem formula for over 7 years now too.
