Feb 13, 2018 Coca I mean, I get calling astroturf with people as obsessed with their "independent" gimmick as Macklemore or Chance the Rapper, but otherwise it just seems like a meaningless critique. Getting a push from a label just affects exposure. Have more resources doesn't always equate to making better music. Jaden Smith has more advantages and privilege behind him than pretty much anybody, his music is garbage, and yet people have no problem shilling him. I don't see Coca as being significantly worse than most people in this lane of music. Catchy melodies all over that tape.
Feb 13, 2018 my bad but yea idk, I would always see his stuff at the top of sites in pretty large volume (Datpiff, HipHopEarly, etc.) but his views/download numbers were relatively low, so it would rub me the wrong way like "why is this guy getting so much promo without anything backing it?" Never looked too far into it though, you've obviously done more research than me so I'll take an L
Feb 13, 2018 LOL, zero research over here. Don't feel out studied. I'm more just talking about the concept of an "industry plant" broadly. Do I like artists to be transparent so I don't feel "taken" by a contrivance? Sure. Do I care if this tape is shadow funded by Atlantic Records or something? Not really? Seems like a hipster hang up to care about the invisible hand like it changes the merit of the final product.
Feb 13, 2018 just cause i smoke more weed than i eat food doesn't make me a vegan or a plant alroight fucken leave me alone!
Feb 13, 2018 Nah, I think you were spot on. Clearly inspired by Thug, but we're living in the Soundcloud world where whatever is popping is instantly an influence on the entire field. Just see that Zahsossa guy who is already tweaking Vert's style. By comparison, Coca is kind of ancient for his closest relative being Thugger lol.
