May 2, 2018 Outside of a few good songs, the majority are terribly written. Forced corny/awkward punchlines, overly descriptive to the point of nauseam, often lacking of any substance, or circling around the same topics he has been since 2010. Em is not a good writer anymore, he can write some good s--- every now and then but the bad songs outnumber the good ones pretty substantially.

It's true his overall quality of music has fell, he sometimes would say corny punchlines too, or maybe filler lyrics, but I'll disagree with you on him not being a good writer in general anymore

May 2, 2018 Regardless of the 4 to 15 ratio of good writing on Ems recent albums he's still a top tier artist...even Ems cringe stuff is better than anything these mumble rappers put out
May 2, 2018 You can say his writing output in the present is inefficient or inconsistent, but if his writing at peak is unbelievably good or brilliant, then it's dismissive to just say that his writing is dogshit and he isn't good at it anymore. Em is good at writing still, he just isn't as reliable and consistent as before. Also. the case of those cringey lines isn't half as simple, it's Em trying to experiment with puns, create witty humour, exaggerated metaphors that end with a conclusion etc, etc. Not every artist does that and usually takes the safe lane with flow, rhymes, lyrics in general that are laid pretty straightforward. Though EM's dad jokes on Revival were awkwardly cringy and embarrassing
