he wasn't a jazz artist and he wasn't just "some player" either
he was a punk musician who entirely by himself created an entire new genre of modern classical while also being one of the first composers of post-minimalism and he was making post-rock songs almost 10 years before anybody else and almost 15 years before it had a name

he was a staple of the no wave scene which was a new york avant-garde punk scene that took an experimental approach to punk. more emphasis was put on the texture and rhythm than on technicality or melody. sonic youth are the most well known band from that scene although esg are also known since their ep has the most sampled song of all time on it

branca took the outside influence further by actually making modern classical with a punk band rather than just taking elements of it. he also used strange tunings on his instruments, i'm pretty sure he used a prepared guitar on all of his albums. he was also one of the first musicians in to put drone music into a modern genre

basically he was one of the most influentia, experimental and innovative artists in modern history and everybody who has ever lived should listen to the ascension
