So, started as a discussion on a @Papa Alpha Andy profile post, with @Big Cuntry .. as requested by @Grimace and @joeyp363 , this thread. Recovery vs Ye, which is the better album?

Imo, Recovery has a better (at least an actual) direction and overall better content. Obviously it's filled w corny punchlines and it got some really bad songs, but it also has songs like Seduction, Space Bound and Going Through Changes that are more memorable than any song on Ye. Ye doesn't have a song that actually blows me away.

Honestly, if Recovery was shorter and deleted some s--- songs it would have been solid. Same w Ye being more focussed and one or 2 songs added.

Ye is, as we know now, a half assed project after he deleted the actual album. It got no real direction, no big highlights like his other albums, and not the memorable stuff that Recovery has (for better or worse).

Honestly at this point both are flawed for different reasons and I can't pick one over another easily like w Kanye's other recent projects vs eminems.

thot this was a weird a--- comparison and was gonna say ye easily, but after reading op I'm not so sure. i don't think I can actually pick between the two, which is a weird space for modern day Kanye to be, when I can't say for certain if I'd take his new album over one of Eminems least impressive projects

As time passes I'll probably land on Ye, but right now, Recovery.

Ye lacks direction and it feels like it could be Kanye's worst project to date. It feels very bland and unfinished, give or take one or two songs. It feels rushed, lazy, and uninspired in pretty much all aspects. I love "I Thought About Killing You," but there's gaps in the song where he could be rapping something but it's just blank. The songs feel like snippets honestly... like a sample disc to get someone into the finished product. Each song just kinda ends.

Recovery at times is rough on the ears, but the direction of the album is clear from the get go. As messy as some of the mixing is, the songs themselves feel complete.

I feel like a better comparison would be Revival and Ye. Reason being that Em and Kanye are both known for making each album sound different from the last, but both Ye and Revival sound like an attempt at meshing previous sounds together. If it were between those two I'd probably pick Ye.

Everyone should read my original posts for my take. @Michael Myers could quote or link in ur op?

Here’s the gist: Kanye is fraying, it’s obvious. It’s slightly reminiscent of when em was publicly embarrassing himself (both previous innovators known for airing their personal issues in their work, fueled by immense ego...and drugs). Kanye’s run lasted longer granted ..... but this album, and his public meltdown has rly only been seen by the likes of eminem lol. Hence the comparison.

One is a mediocre piece of s--- with no real passion(bar a couple verses) or musical experimentation whatsoever. The songs are all littered with the same s-----y formula, and the production is VERY dated. Not to mention the awful lyrics.

The other, though not as musically appeasing as Kanye’s previous work,is still an authentic piece of work, flowing with creativity added by his favourite musical peers. Every little sound has no doubt been carefully calculated. Again you could make a case for certain sub-par lyrics, but musically, “Ye” is a MUCH better album than Recovery.

This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. The production of Ye is better... But the lyrics and the flows are better on MOST recovery. This is a f----- up question to ask... Makes me look at Ye like my boi fallin off.

Eminem started making dogshit albums that were legacy destroying and has been bad longer than he was good.

Kanye has made ONE album that’s isn’t quite on the immense “magnum opus” level of some of his previous work. But it’s not a “bad” album. There’s no comparison whatsoever imo

Both albums s--- compared to the classic Revival, but YE is actually 0/10. Recovery is about 10/10.

yeah pretty sure i am, i am from the ghetto and my taste is pretty specific. pretty much all the "hot s---" critically acclaimed or most discussed albums here are ones i think are s--- boring. Ye/recovery included. i'd say autistic musical taste is probs a good way to describe it cause whenever i hear an album thats getting praised here i just pause it about halfway through and start playing Kevein Gates. every time without fail.
