    Interesting read.

    I sometimes criticize reviews (in general) for being too much about the background and less about the actual album/music, but there's a great balance here.

    Drake does not operate exactly like the Kardashians—he wishes he had a Kris Jenner in his corner—but they are probably the only other group of people who have manipulated new and old media this decade to such effective ends.

    I'll take your word for it.

    This review is better than the album tbh. Between this and Pitchfork, Scorpion has received some really fair and accurate coverage. Surprising.

    Great read, very much on point when you described how impressively calculated Drake's career has been. Dude survived being in such a machismo-dominated genre for such a long time.

    Really good write up! The only thing I disagree with is the insinuation that Drake only rapped about his kid on the record due to the Pusha-T beef. Obviously songs like “8 out of 10” & “Emotionless” were done in response to the beef but a song like “March 14” I think would have been on there regardless. Nor do I think the degrassi music video was done as a smoke & mirrors. That’s a pretty typical drake music video that was probably talked about weeks if not months in advance.

    Definitely think March 14 would've been there regardless. To an extent Pusha and Kanye ruined that moment, cause it would've been pretty wild to wait til track 25 and see him write an open letter to Adonis like that, but getting Emotionless & 8 out of 10 was worth it.
