but real talk, sales obviously do matter to a very large degree. if we qualify the value of reviews in what they provide as far as opportunities, then the value of sales dwarfs that.

drake is the most transcendent artist in the history of the genre. if we're talking about the most important artists in the history of the genre, drake is top 5 top 5 top 5 (no debating). rap is most consumed musical art form, and drake is the biggest rap and pop artist in the world. man never rode the way, he helped propel it. his success has (to whatever minimal degree, but still notably) helped provide opportunity for the entire industry.

I’m talking in 2018. I already had a convo with Trent about this and he dodged my question as to whether not he’d even listened to the I came from nothing tapes where that criticism actually applies. Once he went on his 2015 run I never really heard people say that anymore.

I didn’t mean to say sales don’t matter in general, just that they’re not very relevant in when it comes to most good criticism. And that I’d never use it as an argument for why a project is good or bad.

I have a great deal of respect for our resident writers here, most of the time I end up learning something new or they would challenge my own opinion which I believe is the biggest reward I'd get from reading music criticism. I perhaps wouldn't have been as salient as I am about music in general if it wasn't for reading all those online publications ages ago.

I never look at the score since you just can't put a number on the value of music, that's my biggest issue with people that put weight on criticism; context & retrospect are just bigger than that

Adele sold 3 MILLION first week with her last album. Stream numbers are tricky because they don't tell the full story especially when you drop a 25 track album.

"The highest sales achieved in any country in an album's debut week are 3.38 million for 25 by Adele in the United States in the week ending 26 November 2015."

Okay, well if we took maybe 4 or 5 pop artists and slotted them ahead of Drake, that doesn't diminish my point at all.

Putting 4 or 5 pop artist ahead of him doesn't diminish your point in saying he's the number 1 pop artist :what22:

"Dimminsh - Make or become less"

Well yeah your point does become less especially trying to down play THE BIGGEST POP ARTIST IN THE WORLD as a supporting point? Really?

lol i was dead a--- about to type out the difference between a conclusion ("the point") and a supporting argument, and then go on to explain necessary and sufficient supporting arguments, and then i caught myself :laff:
