ok now this makes sense rakim impact on the game did not hit u like that because u was 16 when u probably found about paid in full etc
but does who were old enough to remember would tell rakim when they first heard him it was like hearing nas on illmatic
expect rakim was doing what nas was doing on illmatic before him.

Well, you're not that much older than me.
But it's worth mentioning that I was born in a s-----y Post Soviet country.
It took us a while to catch up on what's what in the United States.
Nobody I know who was alive back in the day has even heard any hip hop in the 80s because of the Iron Curtain. So there was no such influence where I live and it took us a while to get our s--- together in the early 2000s. It was illegal to listen in on foreign radios and importing vinyl and cassettes was super hard back in the 80s.

The only rap song my mother knew back in the 80s was Ice Ice Baby

You should join the conversation and elaborate your opinion then.
Tell me what's so inaccurate about a comparison between hip hop in the 80s and hip hop in recent years.
It's changed a lot and there are certain things that stand out. Like puns and wordplay being a thing that everybody did in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

rakim rhymes more syllables per bar then eminem for what it's worth.

I can agree with that, it's just popular belief that Paid in Full was his greatest accomplishment.
Though Know The Ledge and Don't Sweat the Technique are some of my favorite tracks.
Like I mentioned, I don't know s--- about those times. I wasn't present. I'm just basing these comments I'm making on my opinion of what I've taken away after experiencing Rakim's and Eric B's discography, when I was younger.

Nowhere near as present as they have been recently. People literally have triple entendres in their songs nowadays where a bar could have multiple meanings.

Also worth mentioning that a lot of the technical stuff is lost on me. I'm not a hip hop nerd, I listen to music to simply enjoy it and have an experience.
I do not dissect the rhyme scheme and turn a rap song into a mathematical equation, where I highlight syllables in different colors on each bar.
I do that with beats though, because I produce, so I feel you. I just don't care as much for rhyming.

also the s--- people give credit to eminem for example like doing slant rhyming

rakim g rap etc was doing that before him and some would argue was doing that on a higher level.
