Nov 6, 2018i have the album. it's incredible.
i think it won't be seen as the consensus best of his career –– Outside was dark and laser-focused in a way that really enamors critics and a certain kind of listener –– but i prefer it to that and to all of his other work. the songs are short and sort of formless; the beats are lofi and have lots of chopped up soul and stuff. it almost sounds like a mach-hommy record. he's still rapping about mental anguish and stuff but the textures are a bit brighter.

Loved the first listen of this, gonna have to run it back since there's a lot I probably didn't catch. His progression from IDLSIDGO to this is startling, seems like he's trying more unconventional flows but it fits the songs so well. He has this rare gift of making sure every single bar is purposeful and focused, it's amazing.
Earl is gonna sound sage-like by his next album.RVD, JIGGA MANE, Jehovah and 1 other person like this. -

i think it's his best record. (i actually think he's gotten better on every lp.) i would expect the consensus will settle as:
IDLSIDGO
the new one (you guys will get a kick out of the title, which tries to make it sound super low-stakes)
Earl
Doris
my personal ranking is this > outside > doris > earl. the reason i think this one will be considered second is because it's a bit of a slower burn and not as in-your-face intense.SkrrMan, Ordinary Joel, DKC and 1 other person like this. -
