What's weird about discussing Eminem in 2018 is: in one camp, Eminem can do no wrong. (These people likely have mental issues.) In another, Eminem can do no right. (Some legitimacy here, but also some try-hards who approach the Em hate fashionably.)
In the middle there's me. The only honest mfasvdawg, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, The Mandalorian and 5 others like this. -

Kamikaze is NOT a memorable album. There is nothing on there that would qualify as a great song. It got a lot of credit for a few reasons:
1) it was a lot more focused than Revival, which had sort of a kitchen sink approach
2) it actually sounded like he was trying again
3) he called people out by name. I feel like a lot of Eminem fans secretly hated all the years where he refused to attack anyone personally except Lindsay Lohan and Kevin Federline (as evidence for that - remember how giddy stans got when Em admitted he almost dissed Kanye and Wayne? lol embarrassing)
4) it was released by surprise. Em's always been in love with the dramatic rollout, so a move like this felt like he was setting aside his ego and just letting the music speak for itself
But think about it - how good is it, actually? Are you coming back to that corny Venom song? How about Good Guy (or whatever that horrible "s--- my d-ck" song is)? What is he saying in Normal that he hasn't said a million times before? Doesn't he just sound embarrassing trying to mock Bad and Boujee, two years later? Even something like Stepping Stone, which is genuinely heartfelt and mostly well-written, is musically piss-poor so it lacks replay value
There's no doubt that Kamikaze is a step up from his last record and really, I couldn't fault you for calling it his best since The Eminem Show. But people forget how low that bar is. He hasn't released anything above a 6/10 since 2002. Including Kamikaze.
As for Pablo - I get people's issues with it, I really do. It's long, it's all over the place. It doesn't have the clearly defined vision of the three albums that preceded it. But a lot of these songs are really, really good. The production is uniformly strong. Ultralight Beam and Real Friends are top 10 Kanye contenders. Above all, the album is just really f---ing fun - Famous and Fade and Father Stretch, for example, are more purely enjoyable than anything on Kamikaze.Jun 1, 2026 -

Oh, I don't think anybody could make an argument Kamikaze is good in a traditional sense. It is, however, very interesting and shows some evolution unlike TLOP which just sounds like half baked bs with some gems sprinkled in.asvdawg, dkdnfbdjdkdddjdjfvcgfl, Michael Myers and 3 others like this. -

Ya I saw gonna vote tlop but then I saw trent’s Drug addled a--- trashing kami so I switched.
And honestly kami is a pretty mediocre album.... but it’s got em back in oppositional mode. Since rly encore, his albums sound like they exist in a vacuum, some parallel universe of rap and music making. W kami, he is taking a position lol.... and sees more than a few similiairities between today’s more melodic younger rappers and the pop machine he derided in his early career. I think that’s a decent place for him to be: always on the outside. -

for the record I'd also like to point out that he made a song about weenies and a diss track to a puppet. Years later he redeemed himself by pretending to be a cross-dressing Arabic serial killer

I don't think much of them, tbh. I probably haven't played the album in a month and have only listened 5 or so times
Based on memory...
I thought the first three overall were...pretty solid. The best bunch on the album. I could nitpick (that Greatest hook gets on my nerves), but overall, I think this run of songs really oversells the rest of the album
Already spoke on Normal. He isn't good at writing these songs and really should consider abandoning them. There's nothing new or interesting here.
I thought we were done with skits
Stepping Stone - spoke on this earlier too. The most interesting song on the album lyrically. He really opened up and it sounds genuine. Unfortunately nothing about it makes me want to come back to it musically. So as I said - good song, but little replay value
Not Alike - pretty corny, as I said earlier. I don't hate it by any means, but I do think his obsession with tearing down "mumble rap" is really unbecoming and comes off as bitter and out-of-touch. You can find that sort of bitterness all over the album but as I recall this was one of the worst offenders
Kamikaze - this is the one where he samples Fack, right? lol I hate this
Fall - one of the better ones on the record, probably my favorite! I'm a big Justin Vernon fan so I was glad to see him here.
Nice Guy/Good Guy - could do without, particularly the first one. That "s--- my d-ck" part is unbearable. Similar critique to Normal. He just comes off as desperately misogynistic and immature on these kinds of songs, imho. Idk what he thinks he's accomplishing here that he hasn't already accomplished elsewhere?
Venom - forced movie tie-in. Thought it was decent at first but grew tiresome quickly
