I just got offered a job at a coal mine. It pays $145,000. I'm 29. I'm still in shock tbh, never thought I'd see that kind of money in my life.

What do you do and what do you earn? Is it more or less than you imagined you'd be earning at your current age?

Thanks mate. I imagine working on an oil field is pretty hard graft. I feel lucky to get a job like this at a relatively young age. I hope you're being smart with all that coin :)

Uni is a great experience. It should be easy enough to get into Open Foundation. What do you want to study?

Trying to do it online as a mature-age because I don't wanna f--- around with work time at this age. Want to do journalism, my old man has worked in the media my whole life and his pretty much so I've always been around it. You're an Aussie I'm pretty sure if so you might know who he is, Shawn Cosgrove the "Come on down" guy on the Price is Right with Larry Emdur years ago haha

28 / freelance writer / bout 40k USD a year. This however includes all told probably....two months worth of vacation time for the whole year where I didn't work. I can take time off whenever I want but I also don't get paid vacation so it's kinda a give and take. If I didn't take so much vacation and grinded harder I could probably make closer to 50-55k but I'd rather take the vacation. Was able to go on a three week road trip as well as go to Miami, Austin, and Sacramento for extended periods of time, and I'm bout to head off to mexico for the rest of the year in a few days. Not to mention the random trips to Portland and other drivable areas around me. Wouldn't trade those experiences for anything. I have the rest of my life to f---in work.

I never really had any expectations for how much I would or wouldn't make, but I wouldn't have gone into writing and editing if I wanted or expected to be rich young.

Once I get back from my trip I'm gonna be looking for a more traditional job in another city thouggh cuz seattle's expensive as f--- and while I love the ability to do whatever I want schedule-wise it gets kinda boring being home so much and I miss the social interaction every day (though obvs I BS on here/whatsapp all day as well as have a slack team with a bunch of my old coworkers). Def gonna be looking for something where I can work from home at least a day or two a week.
