Ordinary Joel Found a new way to flow

It doesn't take long to check out new releases my guy. A few hours of your day is nothing when you can just play stuff while doing your tasks or on your commute to and from work etc etc. If something sticks then just spin it a few more times. Discovering new music instead of being caught in a rut of the same s--- you listen to all the time is rewarding as a music fan.

People really out here making out that listening to new music is way too hard or something like really? :westbrook2:

What popular albums do you feel were unfairly dismissed? The two biggest albums of the year were middling, bloated LP's from Post Malone and Drake. Kanye released his worst album. Queen was a flop. What's missing? J. Cole and Eminem? lmao. You could make an argument for The Carter V and Kids See Ghosts (both of which I would've lobbied for if I was part of the Pitchfork staff) but it's not as if either of those were universally lauded.

This idea that music criticism as a whole tends to be biased against what's popular is wildly overblown and tends to be demonstrably untrue more often than not.

guy's gotta branch out a bit

^this is fair though. it seems like these lists always do have a pretentious vibe to them where the author intentionally throws a few in there just to show that they know hiphop, despite the average listener never having heard of the album. maybe that's me not branching out enough either though :emoji_shrug:

I just realised you're ESL so I guess having rap as background music is a s--- idea. Still tho, you can afford to spend your time listening to rap music that's current when you're on your way to work or whatever. Again I must reiterate, a few hours out of your day listening to music is not a hard ask at all if you're willing enough.

Music listeners tend to be curious and have an open mind to new things to the point that they can afford to spend their precious valuable time checking out a song. And if they like it enough, they can then fall down a rabbit hole and find more s--- that they like etc etc. There is hip-hop music that's current that's out there for EVERYONE. You just have to be open-minded enough to take the plunge. It's not a waste of time at all if you really do love music.

Although you say that you need to be introduced to new music to give it a shot, earlier in the thread you sh---ed on a viable method of introducing you to new artists (aka the article in OP). Like, did you realise that songs are usually a few minutes long and for each project that Pitchfork listed, you can give each artist a shot by listening to the songs linked in there? Honestly I don't think you're THAT time poor. It's just close-mindedness tbqh with you before you've even had a chance to listen to something. I'll never understand people's mindsets to write something off before they ever give it a chance.
