I've seen the Northern Lights thousands of times. I live in Alaska and work in rural places all over the state. I once drove my work truck to the top of a mountain at Pogo Goldmine when the area was engulfed in a 500,000 acre wildfire and I was being paid 24 hours a day to do fire watch and protect the work camp and watched the northern lights above and the wildfire below... I might be the only person who has ever viewed both phenomen at the same time.
