Jul 20, 2019 Haven’t listened to anything beyond Second Rounds On Me...gonna have to give this a shot!
Jul 20, 2019 Always thought Obie was pretty underrated Cheers was a great album. Drips gives him a bad rap.
Jul 20, 2019 Obie Trice is genuinely one of my favourite rappers. He's got a really distinctive and effortless delivery. I get the feeling his work ethic f---ing sucks though. The only failing of Cheers was that it was swallowed up in the hype of GRODT. Obie got really unlucky there, but he's been on a fairly steady decline since. Will definitely check out this new album hoping for the best. Glad to see dunne08 still getting work too. He still about?
Jul 20, 2019 Tbf, I literally remember nothing from Bottoms Up and The Hangover except that they weren't awful. Just never revisited them. I'll prob give them another spin before this. Obie was without a doubt at his best on a major label though. Shame he can't control his drinking.
Jul 21, 2019 I was quite satisfied with Bottom's Up after so long in limbo. 'Spill My Drink' was a great tune. You can kinda hear him running out of money by the end of the project though. The Hangover had a couple of good songs but was very forgettable.
Jul 21, 2019 I'd prefer Drips over many rap songs today. I don't see why people hate it so much... The reason he is not on Shady is because he was a big problem guy. He had problems in concerts etc. His style was perfect for Shady tho. After Second Rounds On Me his albums were very forgetable. Shady was such a perfect fit for him. Cheers album was so dope. After Shady, his music was really forgetable sadly.
Jul 21, 2019 Didn't he basically k--- his Shady career by over-sleeping, missing an interview event and royally pissing off Iovine? I seem to recall this being a thing. As someone who likes Obie it's pretty easy to see his work ethic is affected by his personal issues. It's a shame because as you said, he was a great fit for Shady. He seemed cool with Em for years but even that seems to have died off in recent times.
Jul 21, 2019 We All Die One Day is still my favorite Em verse of all time. Cheers was a shady classic. That era was really fun to be a fan of shady records. I’ll check out this new album but I’m not holding my breathe. Do we have a list of producers and features yet?
Aug 10, 2019 It appears the tracklist with features is: Intro This & That (ft. G5 & Directorkasper) Heartless No (ft. Lyriq) Truth 2 Power (ft. ???) a--- (ft. Magnedo7) Rollin' Take It There (ft. G5) Letter Space (ft. Xzibit & Lyriq) 92 185+ Deuce (ft. Swift & Spice1) Hate SMR That means 3 of the 13 songs are out already, including Letter which is 4 years old. No word on producers but I wouldn't expect much.
Aug 10, 2019 I miss Obie trice in his Shady days....loved his Shady albums and chemistry with Em....those last two albums were subpar...but also makes sense how important Em executive producer and influence was I’ll give it a listen but he should always try to get an Em feature lol Would love to hear unreleased Obie tracks from his Shady days
Aug 10, 2019 Lack of budget stands out the most to me. Both previous independent albums have used singles that were years old, but The Fifth takes it to a whole new level if it includes Letter because that was released as a bonus track for the previous album in 2015. Lazy, or cheap, or both. And you know he's tried getting that Eminem feature to no result. Kinda sad really. According to the Shady 1.0 thread there's an OG Bottom's Up floating around but that is the first I've heard of it.
Aug 10, 2019 True, i agree Obie is definitely still living off of his Shady fame...with lazy work ethic and old tracks...definitely not getting an Em feature hurts as most people would listen for only that reason Would be interested to see his Shady bottoms up track list...any Em help equals good project with obie
Aug 16, 2019 Wish Obie was originally promoted better. Eminem should have done a video for love me. And picked better singles for cheers. Cheers is so f---ing underrated
